What's the best thing for cleaning off the coating without damaging the case?

I did my att heads with a baking soda paste on a bit of cloth. It took a bit of time and effort but did the job

Avon Skin so Soft is amazing for removing residues

some say for mozzies as well

Use the wife's or girlfriends nail varnish remover.

If you don't have any of the above try a local Boots etc that stocks female beauty products or just be gender fluid and use your own 👍

I did mine with methylated spirit's, all the sticky stuff just wiped off without causing any damage to the casing

glad I saw this I have 2 receivers that I could throw against the wall and I'm sure they would stick to it..what causes it ?

I would avoid acetone, it can melt and dissolve plastic and also avoid nail varnish products as well as some of them can have acetone in there contents. I used to work with the stuff, and as good as it can be for some things, its not ideal on plastic. You may get the "rubber" off but underneath its plastic and the result could be the surface melts and with handling it, you could end up with fingerprints in the plastic when it rehardens.

I have a radio that does the same and as others have mentioned, used meths on it or ethyl alcohol to clean it.

That bloody sticky rubber crap was the only reason I sold my set of four ATTs alarms with updated v2 receiver.... The cheeky feckers at Gardner/ATT say this is solved in newer versions but it isn't.

It pained me to spend more money with them but I think the design is the best on the market so I ended up going for the 'Crystal' versions in the end. They are exactly the same specification but made of clear plastic and don't have any coating.
