Hi, i fancy giving the free stretch at chertsey mead a go, does anyone know how safe it is at night along there , just wondered if you get many weirdos/ trouble there?

My old man used to live in the flats on the same side as The Bridge pub. I remember him taking me one night float fishing with a starlight on the float. Float bobbed, started to pull him in and the water went up like a Great White had surfaced (in my 8 year old head). Pulled in the head of a decent chub, body long gone!
These days you see a few on the opposite bank, normally the type who leave the Argos Bivvy half burnt out when they are finished. Plenty of scrap metal merchants in that area, if you know what I mean. The proximity to so many big fish and the fact that it floods so readily means there must always be chance of something decent. If I was looking to fish it I would approach the marinas and fish from there.
