Who's doing what via Google or Alexa?
Personally i have all my music and speakers and every light in the house controlled by Google/voice. Lots of different LED options based on mood or activity. About to have a washing machine and dishwasher fitted that can be controlled via app on the same system.
Front door bell and CCTV probably next.
Anyone got any interesting set up's?

The Nest doorbell is worth having, also the 'recently' released Floodlight cam....although the floodlight cam you can only use on the Google Home app at the moment, the Nest app will only show footage from older camera models.
I'm not into getting ALL devices hooked up, just useful ones.
WiFi kettle? WiFi coffee machine? and then WiFi washing machine?
By all means get them if they tickle your fancy ... but with devices you actually need to walk up to I don't see much point.
If the coffee could do delivered from the kitchen to my home office via a drone, which could also refill the coffee machine with water/pods then great, I would have one (and get even lazier and fatter!
).
Being able to say "Hey Google, show me the drive" and have the google hub display the drive on it's little screen is useful, or the doorbell when you are expecting someone to pop round.
Being able to set routines for lighting, ensuring certain plugs etc are turned off when you go to bed (Xmas tree at this time of year) is amazingly useful...and at a sensible price for most of it.
I will watch this thread for ideas...it might be I am being a bit too reserved need a few new toys...
p.s. Despite owning multiple Alexa products (Echo's, Sonos Play etc) I really don't like the Alexa AI (and I am an Amazon fanboy!) ... Alexa is nowhere near as helpful as Google imho

I dont see the point yet of having the washing machine and dishwasher connected, they just happen to be wifi enabled for some reason.
One thing i think will be good is the two new Neff ovens being installed, they have probes you stick in the joints/meat etc and a connected app tells you when the food is cooked to your liking, that has to be better than the Mrs constantly checking!!
Looking at doorbells but I believe the lag between someone pressing the bell and your phone app coming to life can be poor missing the opportunity to use the talk side of some of these bells.

I've got a Netatmo smart thermostat. I bought it to be able to switch the heating on 24 hours before getting home when on holiday in the winter - our heating is crap and the house takes a long time to warm up. But in reality the best thing about it is being able to switch the heating off remotely from the lake when the mother-in-law comes for the day while I'm fishing.

@Mozzi : Speak for yourself, it's nice up here. The scummers from the south of town don't tend to muster up the energy to come all the way up this hill

@braders1978 : I used to have one of those know-all devices...I was able to sell all my Encyclopedia Britannicas as she knew everything
@Alby : Yes, there is a little bit of a lag. It's still usable, but I think I have only every used the speech/talk function once when I was at ASDA and told the driver I would "be back in 5 mins...leave the parcel by the door please". It's the video that's the handy function, recording of who comes/goes and like I mentioned, just having the ability to have (for example) the office or kitchen hubs watching if you are expecting a friend around.
Those oven sensors sound useful, that's the point of tech/software...automating boring/repetitive tasks

Tried ordering bulk loo roll deliveries on the Alexa someone had on their desk in my old office. I never did find out if it worked.

Well, I have a few detectors and sockets for home automation from Ajax, and usually, I just control my appliances with my phone and make sure if all my doors and windows are locked and there are no intruders. That's basically it, and to be honest, I don't feel the necessity to get my house full of robots to do everything for me because I think that it's not a burden to do most things yourself.

im the same, cant be arsed with all this tech. I've one of the ovens mentioned below and they are a complete waste of time. the ball n chain pesterd me to get it and she don't even use the gadgets on it.. And I'm sure the built in Alexia on my tv spies on me..told the mrs other week for a wind up. that I was getting her a stair lift and mobility scooter..now I keep getting stuff through the post and online adverts trying to flog me one...oh and saga holidays,
