I'm getting around to upgrading my spod/marker setup - this isn't a question about recommendations, although I'm looking at either the Shimano TX Spod or if I can stretch to it the Free Spirit CTX SPM.

My question is about length. My main rods are 12ft but I'm thinking I'd go for a 13ft spod/marker for those extra yards when baiting/leading about etc. Is that what others do? I'm pretty sure this is what I'm going to do but happy to be convinced otherwise. TIA.

All personal choice mate.

I was in a similar position. But my main concern was can I cast my main rods as far as my spod rod. It's ok baiting at 130 say but only able to cast a single 120.

If it's to make spombing easier then fair enough but it can also have cons

Can you compress it
Will it become tiresome with the extra weight.

All based on your own ability really.

Most people will go further with a 13 but as said its different for each person.

I hate spodding, but if I have to do it I prefer a 13ft Spod rod. I find it easier to compress with the heavier test curve. My rods are 12'6 but obviously softer so don't have a problem getting to the same distance as the spod.

You may gain, you may not. I played about with 13 foot rods years back and couldn't cast as far with them as I could with 12 footers, which makes no sense and to this day I can't work out why, but that's what happened. If you can I'd borrow a 13 footer and have a go before shelling out on your own
