Been using small pva mesh bags with a mini pellet mix in during the past couple of months to good effect.

Now with the colder weather approaching I want to try a stick mix, something I haven't tried before.

Do I just start with a single branded bag of ready made stick mix or is there a better way of doing it without it costing a fortune.

Got some NS1 12mm pop ups and would like to try some small sticks to hook onto those.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated please.

Just use a ready made stick mix. As for using stick ls with popups ,can't help you there. I don't ever use sticks with popups as I want my hookbait on the contents of the stick and not waving about a couple of inches above it

Or just blitz your freebies/pellet in a blender with some bread. Little bit of oil, GLM powder, liquid liver jobs jobbed.

Any difference between shop bought stick mixes and ground bait apart from price?

I just use amino groundbait mixed with crumbed boilie and some of the matching boilie soak. Make sure the end where the hook sticks in is groundbait only. So you dont mask the hookpoint.

Bear in mind the cold water temperature.
You don't want something too oily, and ideally tie them during your session , not days before.
The pva will absorb the contents and struggle to melt even more so.

Funny thing is, when Nick H started using them they had a lot of oil in, even over the winter. Pepperami's full of solid fats too. Meaty Marine (the tins, wish you could still, get them) was fatty as well. Carp not knowing what's bad for them eh!

Yeah those Tins (Dynamite Baits?) were . Texture was spot on - always exploded lovely in the water. Shame they quit those. Ingrediants \ costs no doubt.

Thanks for all the info guys. Hadn't occurred to me that I could use groundbait, and as I have plenty of half bags of that knocking about, it makes sense to use some of it up and save a bit of money.

Just bought tub of the sticky manilla liquid and added that to the mix. Smells lovely
Are you sure?
