I've had a few bivvys,and tents over time ,not many just the odd one or two...lol..
OK,I have had several that are mint and I mean vgc,especially as I look after my kit,..its expensive right!! The material is spot on ,and the shelter has potential to last a long time,yet ,the tape sealing starts to come away ,in various stages and parts..
So my question is to manufacturers of shelters,other than sealing them from the outside like some expensive tents do,they supply the sealing agent and tell you to out it on the seams,
Surely there must be another manufacturing process ,like seam welding to do away with this old tech of tape sealing..

Scozza,OK mate..what I mean is is there another way to seal seams,during the manufacture process ,that is better than tape sealing..because I got thinking that all the shelters I've had,over time it's always the tape sealing that gives up first,or in some cases,fails when the actual material is good to go,I'm not talking about a little repair,but across the process of sealing a bivvy..

The most notorious failing were the nash titans with slippery eel, maybe the material or the method of application was at fault, but aqua seemed to have had it sorted back then.
I have repaired a few using the iron on tape with bo further problems.
I have also used aquasure and seamgrip (identical stuff?) thats the most water resistant stuff on the planet.

Yes,I also had a slippery eel Titan,..was proud of n all back in the day..
I'm thinking future tech though,taped seems are a shelters weakest spots,especially where they are under tension,..I was looking my trakker stink bag,and that's got welded technology, surely a similar process, or tech or other,could be now utilised to future proof a shelter,thus doing away with prehistoric ,seam taping processes..
Also ,the amount of contacts I have in angling all saying my bivvy leaks on the vents,another weak spot..

As with everything it will come down to ££££
There is probably better alternatives but they want the cheapest manufacturing costs and the highest selling price.
