I am looking at purchasing a camera, I have been using my phone but feel a decent camera wouldn't be a bad investment. I am not looking at spending a load of money just somthing that is more than capable of decent trophy shots and easy to use. Any help would be appreciated

A Sony A7s second hand. Extremely sensitive in low light, to the point of being able to shoot in near darkness without lights...just pump up the ISO. Coupled together with an iPad or Android equivalent and using Camoodoo for remote picture or video taking, it's the one.

£250 is quite a tight budget to be honest.
You might want to also think about some of the features you ideally want, for example if a flip out screen is a must or not, availability of an intervalometer etc etc.
After having a flip out screen on a previous DSLR my own opinion is that it is nice to have but it definitely is not a must.
The specification that is right for you will all add to narrowing down what could and could not be available in your budget.
Don't forget you will also need a Tripod and at some point in the future you will probably want to buy a decent prime lens.
Right off the bat im thinking that you might be better off going for an older and cheaper DSLR which will have less mega pixels but should still give you decent photos.
Look for something that also has a good availability of second hand lenses if your budget won't stretch to splashing out on new lenses.
I've bought second hand items from WEX Photographic in the past and i've never been disappointed.
Their prices are fair in my opinion and the condition of the items i have bought have always been described accurately, i think their used Cameras also come with a warranty.

Agree an old DSLR or maybe a large sensor compact like that Canon G series. Either way you'll be looking 2nd hand for that kind of money.

I use a 6DmkII for fishing, but like most I worked my way up to that camera from a base level version. I know modern smart phones are getting better and better - I have an iPhone Pro 12 Max which has three lenses and is pretty darn good, but that still can't compete with a DLSR and a decent lens.

I got a second hand Nikon d3300 for £150 and it had only taken about 50 pictures, came with the Nikon accessory pack too, it takes really good pictures as it is but I'm going to upgrade to a 35mm fixed lense which will make it a good self take set up for £250.
