. . .just reading TeeCees review on the Shimano Intensity, and having come back from an enjoyable session with Terry Edmonds this week I'm on a mission to fish more effectively at range and with the right tools . . .

Have been using the original Greys Spod & Marker rods (with Emblems) for an age and whilst they've stood the test of time from an abuse perspective they've never been 'easy' to use and the range is no where near what I can achieve with my current fishing rods which effectively makes them useless . . .also like the idea of a single utility rather than lugging a pair as never spod to a marker these days . . .what's the best set up out there at the moment? (and by best I mean ease of use / effective realworld range / versatility to find features and then swop to a decent lobbing machine etc)

I too have the Shimano Intensity, great rod and does both jobs very well, hopefully even better once i've had my trip to meet Mr Edmonds in November.

For years I used separate marker and spod rods, Century Big Bertha and M1, but recently switched back to a single rod as the lake I'm fishing I am pretty much leading around looking for clear spots, then Spombing or spodding to it after clipping up.
40lb mono leader to braid, (yes😖😆 , a medium Spomb or spod carring the same weight. Usual distances are anything between 30 and 70metres, so nothing mega.

Believe it or not I found the Sonik fits the bill when paired with a Shimano Beastmaster reel
