Looking to get a vacuum sealer so i can back my bait up into 1kg amounts rather than the 5kg bags it comes in. Anyone have experience of this before i buy a sealer? Im assuming the vacuum isnt that strong that it will misshape the baits etc?

Decent heat sealers will have a overide button where you can bypass the main suction, basically setting it at what you want. I have no doubt that my heat sealer on full suction would distort any med soft boilie if they were on top of each other when vac applied.
Personally I found heat sealers great but the bags or roll of made using them expensive (for bait) though it might have changed now.. I used to bag hops for a forum I ran, must have done thousands of them, very good for that purpose.

My one has 3 settings, have to use the lowest or it does squash baits a bit .

I got the one Gerry recommended from Lidl. Vac packs my food and bait perfectly. I use it for exactly the same reason as you and vac pack my boilies into 1 kilo bags from a 5 kilo bag plus some smaller session sized hook bait packs. I'm on the Atlantic Heat freezer boilies which are a soft bait and had no problems at all, especially as they are frozen pre vac packing

Cool. Is that just letting it do its thing? Or do you cancel the operation half way through to reduce the amount vacuumed out?
Found one on amazon that says you can cancel the operation to suit your needs

Just did an edit to include the fact I'm packing frozen boilies from the 5 kilo bag to the new 1 kilo bags.
I just use it on the normal setting. You can override it anytime you want but I've never felt the need to.

The Silvercrest one that Lidl sell is very good and the bags are not a bad price.Its just whether they will have them in again anytime soon

These are 18mm packs with a smaller hook bait pack. I normally use 15mm but have used them all up and need to vac pack another 5 kilos from the bigger bag.
I get everything organised first, Packer set up, kitchen scales and bowl for weighing plus bags ready, or if using a long roll of film either cut it to size and seal one end of each bag or the end of the roll before getting the 5 kilo bag out of the freezer. This saves time faffing about and lets you vacuum the bags whilst the baits are rock solid frozen.
Atlantic Heat comes in 5 kilo frozen vac pacs prom the maker but even so the amount of freezer space you can save with vacuum packing is literally amazing.
Vac Packers can cost from 20 something quid to 2 to 3 hundred quid. Gerry's recommended Lidl does everything I need it to and has a 3 year guarantee and the bags or rolls are cheap and available.

I have had a couple and currently use the Andrew James Vacuum Sealer ( Amazon) as I want the strongest vacuum I can get !!
I am not bothered about miss shaped baits frozen ones dont miss shape anyway
its only the soft fresh baits that will alter shape and I quite like that makes em a bit different if they end up a bit square I only use rolls not bags and buy them when on offer the Lidl one is a good buy if they come around again its been a god send with food on the bank too no more rotten bacon etc cook currys vacuumed sealed just drop in boiling water to heat and eat no mess no limits
if you get some chicken and put in your freezer they say 3 months but vacuum seal it and freeze it then goes to over 12 months blooming marvellous things vacuum sealers

Vac sealers are great, but if you are planning on using the bait within a few weeks, id just use zip seal.
As said earlier - the biggest benefit I get from mine is pre packing food and dropping the pack in boiling water on the bank

I also vac pac some maize as well. I don't know exactly why but it must be something to do with its composition and water retention but it makes excellent cool blocks. I use the stuff in my bucket first and then use the vac packed stuff if required towards the end of the weeks session.
