Quick question.
Need some extra yards whilst fishing, at the moment I have Sonik Gravity X rods 12ft 3.25lb TC. Club rules dictate .37 line, no leaders and max lead of 3oz. I need about 20-25yds additional distance - My technique is fairly ok as I am hitting 120 yards with a baited rig.
My question is without spending a lot of cash of similar rods - Sonik XFW 13ft 3.5lb - Could I increase the distance with Sonik Dominator X RS 13ft 3.5lb or Sonik Dominator X RS 13ft 3.5lb.
Basically, would cheaper 13ft 3.5lb TC rods cast further than a 12ft 3.25lb TC higher quality set up.

Might make a small difference but if the max lead weight is 3oz then I would imagine wouldn't make enough of a change that your looking for to get an extra 20-25 yards. Of course this is just my opinion but others might say different and have better advice than me. The extra ft in length could help get you further, and the heavier test curve may also help, but coming back to the max 3oz lead then that could be drawback for you compared to if you used a heavier lead. You might possibly be able to make an extra few yards with a slightly cheaper setup but others might have better advice on this so I'll leave it to them.

Go to a 13ft Shimano tx2 intensity and you'll get those distances no problem and the rods are cheap.

There's some weird rules out there. But, hey ho
If 3oz is the maximum casting weight, you would be better off dropping down to a 3lb tc, or even a 2.75lb tc rod. A 3oz lead won't compress a 3.5lb rod to it's full potential, even a 3.25lb isn't getting compressed fully.

13ft 3lb t.c rod is probably your best option given those constraints. What is everyone else using?

So you're talking 140/ 145yds. That is a fair distance. I'd go and get some TX7 rods, cheap and hold world records.
I'd assume your rods are taking some of the sting out of your cast due I'm guessing they're a more through action - I don't know these rods. I'd get the TX7's and load up a solid bag to get the extra weight and be extra smooth with the cast so as not to crack off.

You can't reduce line diameter, you can't increase the lead weight and you can't use a leader( to be honest a leader is not going to help much with those lead and line rules anyway)
120 yards with a baited rig under those rules is good going. You could spend an awful lot of money chasing another 25 yds and never get there in this situation.

Not an official recognised world record then. Believe Terry's best overhead cast was with a spod rod but maybe wrong.
