I was just wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advice on pva mesh bags and when to use them effectively, should I attach one every time I cast out ? Or just a few times ?

You can add every cast if you want to as it will help with tangles
A little walnut sized bag will go a long way

If using a lead clip set up it is very rare for me to not use a small pva mesh bag. Usually either a few mixed pellets or crushed boilies, just to get a little more attraction around the hook bait and aid anti tangle

I use them all the time unless I need to cast a fair distance.

Do you tend to still ground bait the area or just use the attraction from the pva bags ?
i am new to carp fishing and i went today to a smallish lake and i did struggle for bites , i was using just a standard hair rig with a CC Moore pacific tuna boilie and then had crushed some down to put into a pva mesh bag and thats all i used, as i wasn't sure if i should ground bait as well. And if so what would you recommend for ground bait .
any advice would be much appreciated.

Most of the time I fish over boilie and put free offerings out as well. Depending on distance and whether I am using one size or not (I often have a bucket of mixed sizes) I either get these out with a carry, spomb or baiting pole. Lots of people fish singles with a bag, I personally have not had much success with it so will almost always put some freebies out, unless I have prebaited
