Sorry had to put it on here as nothing up to date on other species I have 11ft 2.25 barbel rods what size in grams feeders can I use on them without breaking the rod I will be fishing the Thames

I used to put this size out with a John Wilson feeder years ago and that was rated about 1.25 I think with the Avon top

Would they take say 70 or 80 as there is a big flow trying to hold bottom

70g is only 2.5 oz or so so I would think comfortably do that
Used to add dead cows to hold bottom if needed on a 2 oz

Barbel rods are usually able to cast heavier loads than carp rods, my 2.25 rods are fine with 6oz

my Fox Duo lite Barbel rods 2.25 cast 6 ozs no problem my Daiwa specialist barbel 2.75 rods cast 8ozs and I have lobbed 10 ozs with them in flood conditions with no issues lots of times

I have 2.25 barbel rods for the trent, cast 6oz no problem

Casting a barbel rod with a large feeder on is more of a lob than cast.
I can cast up to a 5oz feeder on my 2lb korum rods, so your rods will be fine with that sort of weight.

Don't try and cast like you would with a 3 oz lead on a carp rod , it's a lob. Up to 8 oz with a Chimera 1.75 , similar with a Armalite 2.25 but much less weight mostly.

the shape of the feeder can make a big difference the half moon tunnel feeders hold bottom with less weight due to the shape
often on the Trent with a normal feeder you would need 6 ozs but using the more streamline tunnel feeders you can get away with 4 or 5 ozs like this
