So I'm wanting to create much coarser crumb than I get with the standard plate and I'm wondering whether anyone's modified one like this and has any advice?

Best method I've found is to run the baits through it whilst still frozen, this creates more of flake than a crumb if that makes sense.

Not had a look at doing it but I would guess you could hacksaw a couple of the spacers out of it in different places

Yes mate, I ( when I say I, I mean my old man ) took the plate off and milled the pronged bits to make larger gaps, like you I wanted more chops than crumb, just be careful not to take too much off, a happy medium is needed between, bigger bits of boiling and a broken plate

Get a Moulinex Mixer off the Bay for a tenner, much quicker and easier.

No the bigger ones, mixer is probably the wrong word, it has a blade so more a blender than a mixer. Mine is from the 80's, chuck in half a KG and pulse it till you get what you want.
I use it to make chops, only takes a few pulses and a few minutes.

I have my mums old magi mix which must be 40 years old.

I've just order a replacement standard plate from RM £6 delivered so I can doctor one and keep and keep a spare.
