I'm looking for some information on options for disinfecting cuts, sores... etc for fish like Carp.
I've heard of all sorts of solutions that people have used from:
- Drying the spot, using a simple antiseptic sprays and applying some vaseline to create a barrier
- Using germolene on the fish
- Using bonjela on the fish
Then obviously solutions that are targeted at anglers:
- NGT Fish Care (50ml vs £4)
- Klin-IK (25ml vs £7 or 30ml vs £9.99)
- Prologic Steri-7 (100ml vs £12.99)
- Gardner Intensive Care (60ml vs £9.99)
- Nash Medicarp Ultra (25ml vs £9.99)
- Korda Carp Care All-in-One (30ml vs £9.99)
- Korda Carp Care Kit (60ml vs £12.99 - This is 30ml for ulcer swab & 30ml for propolis)
I'm wondering, surely the likes of the iodine sprays (3% iodine, 70% isopropyl alcohol, 27% distilled water) would do the same thing, or is that too strong for fish? I know vets often use them on animals from dogs, cats, horses, sheep, cows, hedgehogs, hamsters... etc.
Or at least one of the much kinder "purple spray" which is just a mix of the natural ingredients of chamomile, tea tree, lavender and arnica because of their anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and healing properties.

Its a load of old ********, of course carp were dropping dead daily before we decided we should rub chemicals into them every chance we get.
Koi are different due to the environment they are kept in.

Whilst I doubt the effectivenes of all of them I use the MOD propolis. Easy on the wallet and a little thicker than some of the others so may stay on for a second or two longer once returned.

I guess it depends on how far you want to take your carp care...
If you REALLY care then leave them in the water and stop sticking pointy bits of metal in their mouths. ...
Other than that, I have used klin-ik for years. Chuffy posted about propolis on a similar thread a while back and a lot of others seem to support it.

Orabase is what I use on hook holds, sores, cuts etc, if you use it don't play around with it, a bit on the finger and apply it once.
