They do a job, look decent, and will last. But side by side against newer offerings, they feel rickety and dated in use. Too much play for a reel commanding that sort of money in my opinion.
I own a set and still use them, but i have them because i can lay them on the floor, or chuck then in reeds etc and i dont worry about scratching them. I have basias for when i know im fishing with banksticks and alarms and they are a pleasure to use in comparison.
I would be looking at the new emblem 45s if i was buying new reels now. For £150 a reel, id take them over the 5000ts and basias to be honest. I know others will recomend penns and maybe some shimano alternatives, but i like daiwa as a brand so stick with them

They are certainly a marmite thing, I've had various sets over the years, SS3000's, 6000t's, 5000ts, and currently have some of the black 5000's. I still like them and they'll always have a place in my fishing, the drag is beautiful and they look and feel like a carp reel should. However, people are correct, they feel dated these days, the anti reverse thing makes them very ‘baggy' and they do squeal unless you remove the line guard grommets.
I also currently have a set of the new emblem 45's and they really are lovely reels and feel a million times better than the tourneys, although they also feel a size bigger, if that makes sense.
I know it doesn't help but you almost need to try them to know which side of the fence you sit on, you'll know after a session or two whether they are for you!

Absolutely bullet proof. Had a set second hand for about 10 years. Never been serviced, odd scratch in the paint work and sound like a coffee grinder on some occasions but they have never let me down.

I have a set of three. Love using them. They are a bit clunky and dated, but do the job more than well. There are a few upgrades available (can't remember the companies name) including one to reduce the play in the reel. Overall, I think they are a great reel, built to last without spending huge money.

I have SS3000 & 6000T I wouldn't ever ever use anything else,buy with confidence they will last you a lifetime plus they look the nuts 😍
