Is there any preference between the carbon and ice washers to improve the clutch smoothness.
If anyone has used both, the info will be appreciated.

Ice washers are made of carbon
I used Teflon washers in my Ultegra's and they were much smoother

Ive only just fitted ice washers in my spools in the last few days....I'm not sure on which one will be better i.e. ice washers or carbontex washers...but after my research i can advise the carbontex washers need a small amount of grease applied and every year or so will require cleaning and regreasing where as the ice washers are self lubricating and dont need any grease applied....

Think I might go ICE washers myself. Tbf they are only to go in the reels for my small water setup.
Will not be used as often has my distance setup.

Make sure you clean all grease off spindle and spool before fitting.

Shouldn't your spindle have some grease on?? I cleaned my spools throughly but didn't clean the spindle and actually put a small amount of grease on it, should i remove this?? And reclean all spools and washers?

As long as the grease does,nt get on the washers all will be fine .

I put ICE washers on all my Ultegra XTD spools about 2 years ago. No maintenance, and they work just fine....
