Nikon travelite 8 x 25 are very good for around £100.... like most things with glass / optics, depends on your budget really

I got my young son a discontinued pair of Opticron T3 WP 8 x 25, they are really good for the money I paid - they were about £45 a couple of years ago. Have a look on their website, loods to choose from to suit all budgets (£50 up to £700)

I've got some olympus 8x40s, great in low light but a bit bulky
Also got some 8x20s,not sure on brand, nice and compact but not great in early morning/evening light levels which is when I most want them.
At some point I'll probably get some 8x30s and get rid of the others

If you wish to spend around £500 then look at the cannon range of Image Stabilized binoculars .
I have the Cannon 10 x 30 IS binocolurs ,absolutely Awesome , would never go back to ordinary binoculars no matter how good the optics

Barr and Stroud Sierra. Anti fogging , waterproof, decent field of view and nice and rugged. I am pleased with the quality of the optics and they are good in low light. I've gone for the 8 x 42 but they do other sizes too.

Well made? Put it this way, my pair were my grandfather's, then my father's, and they are still going strong. A little bit of oxidation of the Metal but nothing that affects the optics.
But I have to say that my new £80 Nikons are optically better.
