After many threads on here about these I thought I should post about the job I'm currently doing. There is a vermin issue, it's a demolition site which has been stood for many years. The pest control people have been in and put poison boxes down and we've had a steady stream of dead mice over the last couple of weeks, at a guess around 80 or so we've found. Many have been fairly close to the boxes ,but at least 10 have been at least 15-20 metres from the closest poison box, so all the talk of the poison instantly killing them is incorrect. So bare that in mind when choosing what method you use at home as they definitely do not die as quickly as some on here say

Thanks for confirming the reality of these things mate. I've always been against there use on here yet you keep seeing them recommended. They should be BANNED for sale to the general public until they are 100% safe, for the sake of wildlife and domestic pets.

Well that depends entirely on what poisons are used dont it ?

and in any case SURELY the point is can secondary poisoning occur (like a cat or dog a bird eating a dead mouse )

and as clearly your referring to my postings when I advocate using the fantastic Rentokil baited mouse boxes and fact they dont eat it they just need to lick it thats why its pretty much instant with these boxes that why each box can kill up to 50 mice as they dont need to eat it
speaking to the Pest controller chap that does the council properties he was going on about how fantastic the boxes were and wish they could invent something as good for rats
there are lots of forum members on here with experience of using the boxes

And Vossy get a grip mate ? THEY ARE 100% SAFE thats why the laws on pest control are so stiff it takes 2 weeks of a rat eating poison to kill it from anything you can buy over the counter the days of owls and cats and dogs getting secondary poisoning are LONG GONE thankfully

Sorry Gerry, it's you that needs to get a grip mate, what's that saying you like to use, "you can lead a horse to water" and all that.

You can't guarantee the Mouse or Rat won't wonder off to die & affect other animals who eat them, even the manufatcturers won't. You can't guarantee the Mouse or Rat won't take a chunk off and wonder off to die, improbable but not impossible , and that's why the general public shouldn't be allowed to use them.

I mentioned in one of the other posts where these things were recommended, how our council started to use those lick boxes on our allotment site and Mice and Rats were being found dead all over the place, wondering aimlessly in daylight (not normal) along with 2 dead Fox, coincedence...hmm...but even I'm open enough minded to say I can't guarantee it was the box.

I'm not trying to wind you up (seriously) but you are defending the indefensible, until the animal can't escape the box it can affect other wildlife, simple fact.

It's up to folk if they can justify the possibly ramifications of their use, you are a advocate, I am not, we'll never agree on this one

EDIT, note IP mentions poson boxes, do you know what type, lick or bait, type of poison out of interest?

The poison that Gerry's talking about is pretty safe, it kills the mice by sending them into a deep sleep which they don't wake up from, its only effective on mice because they are so small, the amount they ingest is tiny, so even if a cat ate the dead mouse it would not do the cat any harm.

Yes there are other poisons that can build up in rats and mice that could then harm any other animal that ate them, or if a dog ate the poison directly.
In the box's Gerry is referring to the amount of poison is very small.

No idea on the exact poison used Gerry as they were installed before I started on here... And yes it is mostly in reference to your postings. You are going on what you are told,I'm going on what I'm seeing with my own eyes. Sorry if my opinion doesn't match your own, it doesn't make it wrong though. Like I've said to you many times, how do you know they die instantly as you obviously don't sit there and watch! I've only reported what I've seen , take it onboard, don't take it onboard, it really doesn't bother me either way. I just thought I'd post so people could make there own decision either way based on findings rather than marketing blurb

thats based on often finding the mice still with their head in the box the furthest I have EVER found a dead mouse from the box is about 5 feet

just the fact you with your normal argumentative bull shine you will put people off using a superb safe product that will save their fishing gear chewed up by mice
