Set on eBay nearly at £1300,seeing others around £400 mark boxes alone now going for £100 each,seems these reels are on the rise...think I'll be putting mine away for a while to see where the market goes.

I wonder why Daiwa haven't re-released the SS3000 and SS1000, but perhaps the crazy second hand prices are considered good advertising by Daiwa.

Everything is going up at the moment due to the knock on effects of covid. New goods in short supply, no holidays, no pubs, no meals out, no trips. Lots of people have extra cash and are spending it on cool/desirable ‘stuff' instead. Once things get back to normal, the market will even out again.
Some stuff will continue to appreciate, but the top of the market for an awful lot of it is right now.

Not sure I agree. Always seems some knocking the prices but maybe they weren't in the game to start with and just pissy about it.

Always wondered that, the re-releases were ok- not in the same bracket as the originals but still a decent reel,
The BE (black edition) 5000ts attempted to tap the market but not sure they sold as well as they'd hoped.
Surely a new ss3000 with ups graded internals would be a gold mine for Daiwa?

Agreed an up to date ss3000 would be a crazy seller I'm sure,
Not sure if Daiwa are going in the right direction at the moment...I've just bought a set of 3 of the scw Basia and when you put them at the side of my other sld Basias lets just say I hope the scw bit is worth the money

Thats the problem new reels are,nt a patch on the older models ,they are certainly smoother but not built to last .

If you were in their shoes would you want to sell reels that last 20 years+ or some over engineering plastic that will be replaced after a few years
There's no money in making things that last and are serviceable

It's the original square drives that are worth the £££. Decent reels and spares still available. The ss1000 was replaced by the 2600, the internals are pretty much identical, but the 1000 feels more solid IMO.
