If you were fishing a lake that has a proven record (for a few at least) on billy basic monster crab shelfies that are bright orange, what would you use?
I've fished a few times using them but I'm not a massive fan but have caught. I don't mind shelfies in general having done well on some of the a bait, but this lake seems very fishmeal/fishy boilie oriented. I have tried the lost formula and it just didn't work.
I can't decide if I want a bright orange bait but I think I do need to have a fishy one. The water is very clear but bird life doesn't seem to be an issue.

Royal Marine from Baitworks. It has the scent from Hell attractor in it.

Personally I'd speak to abs and get a custom mix similar to what they're using flavour wise but get it in a washed out orange so it looks like it's been in the water for longer, then you should have a higher quality bait which will still be recognised by the fish but not so blatant.

Me personally, I wouldn't get too hung up on whats working for others I'd just go in and use a high quality fishmeal of your choosing. If it would help your confidence you could use one with a crab flavour. Something like three rivers Crab which is based on John bakers Crab and bio shellfish or if you like a bait their new one looks good!
If others success is based on a high attract style bright heavily flavoured bait it could be their success will be quite short lived anyway and something better quality, slightly different and more subtle could work better long term.
