Got a set of these to go with my scopes and really like them.
Seen a few threads on upgrades and wondering which are worthwhile doing. Super happy with the clutch / drag so not interested in converting to QD, live the adjustability they have. Wondering if anything else worth doing?

None imo I had a pair thought about it priced it up and sold them.
Nice reels in a way I didn't see the point of throwing cash at them.

There is one bush that can be replaced with a bearing at the bottom of the drive shaft. I'm told you just have to unscrew the cap where the rear drag would be on a rear drag reel so very simple. I've got the bearings so will measure up and take pics if I get round to it later. I've used ebay for stainless bearings in the past, only a few quid.

Had one that had almost every upgrade going (got it second hand off a chap who spent £100ish a reel upgrading it at custom reels). Still felt like it was well outdated. Sold it and brought a daiwa theory sp4000a much nicer reel.

I don't think it supposed to feel any different but the plastic bush will wear in the long term, causing play and premature ageing of the gears. How long this would take is anybody's guess but for a few quid I think it's worthwhile personally.

Must take an age for the bush to wear out as from memory Daiwa used the same type in the original SS3000's & Tournys!!! TBH unless you are using them for Tarpon fishing, I don't think the bush would wear out for decades with anything hooked in UK fresh water unless you are playing 100lb+ cats multiple times a day

There really is no point doing anything to them except line clips, and then only if you are using them for a certain type of fishing. Not really much use for surface/float fishing or close range stalking.
They come into their own as a sw spinning reel, was offered $$$s for mine in Australia but ended up giving one to a guide after having a modest sized gt on it. The euphoria took over

I'll take the advice of the guy who probably services more SS3000 snd 5000T than anyone else and fit them in mine for the sake of 5 mins and a few quid

Gary at Custom Reels UK upgraded my ss2600 around 2 years ago.
Line clips, worm bush bearings, wooden handles and black bail kicker. Prefer felt drag washers on all my Daiwa reels so did keep them what they are.
Happy with the result. Still not the smoothest reels, but suit my style of fishing.

Putting wooden handles on any reel is a downgrade in my eyes - each to their own I guess, but I think they just look utterly ****.

Would anyone be kind enough to share the size of the wormshaft bearing for the SS2600. Is it the same for the SS1000? Cheers!
