HI Guys.
Im after a small Spod reel to go with my 10FT Spod Rod. I have 5500 Ultegra's s my fishing reels so was after something similar or slightly bigger but not the 14000 Ultegra size.
i was thinking maybe the Wychwood Dispatch 7500 Spod or Sonik Vader? has anyone used either of these ?

Ive been using a daiwa black widow 25a on my 10ft spod rod paired with midi size spombs and although its not a spod reel it has coped admirably this year......... You watch it blow up now I've sung its praises

I had the wychwood about 2 years ago for my spod rod and my step dad had the sonik, the wychwood is much better and he got rid of the sonik it was so badly built. I gave him my wychwood dispatch then bought a shimano xtb spod reel instead but there was nothing wrong with the wychwood mate definitely worth a shot

Look for an old Shimano Biomaster 8000 or similar. Large spool on a slightly smaller body than a more recent big pit reel. Not going to be the smoothest feeling reel but a good workhorse that will outlast a lot of the cheaper alternatives available today.

Have a look for a shimano navi, tough as old boots, no frills workhorse, ideal spod reel.

The only issue with the old biomasters is the crappy shark tooth line clip.
A later bio with a metal sprung clip would be ideal though

I use the ultegra xtd spod reel on my 10ft spod rod and it fills fine

Easily upgraded for £3 of components from Shimano (round clip, spring & the E clip)

I preferred that shark tooth line clip over the metal round ones. I still use my Aerlex 8000 which has that plastic clip, and I have only ever broken one in 17years. That was an easy fix, took about 5minutes to replace.
I also found the shark tooth clip holds the line better than the round metal clip, and is easier to put line under.
As for a spod reel, the Ultegra XTD Spod is around £145, but what about the current Aerlex Spod reel?

I've been using the 5500 XTD on my small water spod set up for the past couple of years !!
For my 10ft set up I use the Shimano Aerlex XTB 10000 spod which is fine.
