I was using whiplash 28lb braid, but it kept snapping on me
I will say I'm still a carp fisherman in the making
I've never done marker/spodding before, but thought I should now do it
I was using it with 50lb leader as adviced in tackle shop
But I've snapped it with just a lead and marker float
The last time it snapped near the reel
I don't use my spod/marker rod now, cos I've lost all confidence in using it
But I should be leading about, using a maker float, and spodding
So I've ordered some super power spider 50lb braid
Just wondered what people thought
And can I use it without a leader

If it's the stuff from eBay I bought the 50lb to go straight through too, I've had thinner shoe laces! Ok for short range but casts as you would expect rope to cast. Ok for leaders, and cheap. I reckon you'd snap your rod before you snap this stuff so might be ok to get your confidence back.

Your leader needs to be long enough to have a few turns of leader on the Reel when casting. I like at least 5 turns.

What he is saying is you don't need to change from whiplash, you just need to make the 50lb leader long enough leader to have your drop for your cast, the length of the rod and 3-5 turns on the spool. This would be pretty much impossible to snap, for me anyway......
If you change to 50lb straight through you won't make it any stronger than whiplash with a long enough leader but you'll just reduce your distance achievable.

I used a leader it was 2 rods length
I lost the lot, with just a lead and marker float on it
Then I was told I didn't need a leader if I was only using a marker float
I again lost the lot near the reel this time
This is all new to me using a spod/marker rod, but I do want to learn

If this is all new to you why not use a mono tapered mainline. 40/12 lb bs. Get the methods right, get it all smooth and under control and then experiment with braid. The only slight disadvantage with mono is loss of some feel when checking the bottom.

Hi, if its the new 8 core whiplash thats probably why you're having issues, the 30 is 0.1mm which is ridiculous. Leader is fine, but I would suggest the 35 or 40, its still sub 0.2 and won't be soo delicate.

The super power spider braid I've got is 50lb and 0.37mm
Just another thing, if braid is meant to be good for leading about. Because it transmits what the lead is pulling over on the bottom. Then won't having a leader attached to the braid stop this
