I was in Waitrose today and for those who don't go in there, they stock the extra brands and blends of groceries that other supermarkets don't. I was looking for hemp oil, but whilst having a mooch I found walnut oil and peanut oil.
Has anyone tried either of these and how do they fair in comparison to others? I'm specifically interested because I've been reading up a lot on nuts for bait and they come across as being a go to bait when the chips are down. I'm wondering if the oil has a similar effect.
Thanks

Always worth a look, supermarkets, etc, for non carp tax items useful in our baits.
Nut oils can be very effective - Just make sure you do an overnight fridge test, to see if that particular one/brand/smart price or premium bottle doesn't solidify in cold tempertures, as some nut oils do go thick or solid, and other ones remain liquid and are fine.
Happy experimenting

I get my hemp oil from tesco and fish sauce from asda, alot cheaper than fishing tackle companies liquids
I've been using hemp oil from tesco, and molasses from an animal food supply shop near me, and used both as a coating for layers pellets.
Been putting the pellet into a plastic tub, add the oil or molasses and leave to gradually absorb.
It doesn't soak all the way in, mostly on the outer layers.
Cheap way of getting a scent in the water.
Also, a little bit of molasses inside your pva bag coats the inside and helps stop damp particles like tiger nuts melting through before casting out.

Good point, will do.
I've used loads of supermarket products to avoid carp tax, but never seen these two oils before so they have peeked my interest.

I use Toasted Sesame oil regular, got a fantastic smell and taste and when mixed in with pellets/spod, flattens water with the slick

Gary Bayes once told me toasted sesame oil was very effective in winter but he said you need to be very careful not to overdo it. Not tried it myself but thought might be useful for someone!

I'm sure someone has tried peanut or walnut oil... But they're keeping stum!

Ian Russell uses vegtable oil in his spod mix though not sure how much oil could be pressed from a carrot or a spud! I have used peanut oil in the warmer months as it has a tendancey to solidfy in the colder water temps. I had fish on it but no more than usually used oils.
The original DT baits lump and lunker liquids were nut oils (the green one was Cashew nut oil) again caught on them and Dave Thorpe really rated the Lump Liquid.

I use peanut oil in my boilies. Other than that I don't use it as glugging or adding to spod mix etc is a waste of time with oils

Hi All,
We used to use a number of oils to flavour "nuts" and mostly chick peas.
Peanut, pear, bananna, blackcurrent, peach, the list goes on
48 hour soak in the water and oil solution (cracked pepper deffinately allowed), remove and boil in fresh water for 40 minutes then drain and replace in the original mixture for 48 hours.
I'm old, I'm allowed to give up secrets
