Hi all first post on here. As the title would suggest I'm looking to refresh my reels and begin my ascension to becoming a tackle tart. I fish day ticket commercial waters across, South east catching Ok size fish (don't have scales) rarely casting further than 60metres. However I'd like to head for a real specimen lake at some point in my life.
I'd pretty much like direct replacements for what I've got, so I can see Shimano baitrunners or Shimano ultrega 5500XTD as a size up. I don't particularly want true big pits (weight & size not actually casting that far) and I'm not attached to bait runner facility so open to suggestions. My tackle shop have suggested some Daiwa 5000, they were black with gold reels and bait runner, in the brochure, which they have on order. I've £120 +\- to spend per reel.
I've got:
Wychwood Rogue freespin 60
Wychwood freespin 40
On 12ft rods, however I'd like to reduce this to 9/10ft.
If anyone had any suggestions I'd be pleased to hear from you.

Yeah shimano ultegra 500 XTD or Daiwa Emcast 25A both would be a good choice both reels same size or the Okuma inception 6000 seems to get good reviews on here another mini big pit size like the Shimano and Daiwa reels mentioned

Have a look at the Okuma T Rex 7000.Lovely reels ,smooth as silk not too big and will last . All brass gearing I believe.

For your needs I would opt for the Okuma inception. Don't think you will find a better reel for double their price, which is only £50 each, so you would get a pair for your budget with change. Despite the cost they look good and are solidly built

Daiwa emblem 35 scw 5000c QDs
Or get on ebay and get some mint older higher end reels..
The okuma reels might be good reels but not really an upgrade, just a new reel.
I'm in the same boat mate after 3 new reels and can decide might go for ultegra 14000s with custom handles from https://www.sccustomreels.com/
£60 for 3 but need a bit of wood..

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't really heard/considered of Okuma bit more than enough people recommend them. I'm surprised the Shimano don't get recommend more.

It may be a case that the baby big pots will feel unbalanced on the 12ft rods. Be worth trying it and seeing how they feel. May balance better on the 9ft rods and then get normal pot reels for the 12ft rods.
Something to consider when buying the reels, daiwa and shimano will be a lot easier to sell on, should you need to, than okuma reels

Hard to look past the Daiwa emblems 35's at the moment. Brilliant reels for the money.
