Got a new lake ticket in late July and been fishing my usual one work night per week since generally, where possible.
It is a deep pit of approx 24 acres, depths to around about 70ft at deepest.
Not many members so I am able to bait a single unfancied swim, and pretty much be the only person fishing it ( I know this as I visit pretty much every other day to bait up and no other pole/peg marks in the swim)
Not to worried about other people fishing it, out of my control but quite sure nobody else is.
I have been able to bait both margin spots in waders, at about 6ft depth. Only a 2 rod swim as very enclosed.
I have had a single fish which very welcome, and sure they will be more to come but it is a tough lake. I have done very well in the past by Pre- baiting on different lakes and feel this gives me an edge although others fish 2-3 nights per week.
I am baiting fairly heavily with particle @ about 8-10kg 3 times a week with additional boilies.
Not a lot of bird life on the lake - maybe 20 x coots or tufties max.
Bait is getting cleaned out as I can see when I wade out, there are fry in there
, I Have seen perch and roach
1) how much do you reckon the birds are having?
2) would smaller particle like hemp still get picked up by the birds?
3) would a sloppy mix of crushed boilies be better - lots of smell but only tiny bits of bait to be mopped up By fish?
4) thinking to go to Tigers next year instead of boilies, alongside small particle. Would birds eat tiger nuts?

I love fishing spots like these where you can actually see what has gone off

Myself I would just continue to fill it in. 30kg a week cleared off is a fair amount though, something is having it
Is it a firm spot, not sinking into the silt?
Any evidence of carp grubbing about, bottom cleared off or weed and silt pushed around. Birds really don't do this unless it's swans which sift through the bottom, coots just pick up. If it's carp it will look like a grenades hit it if it's a softish bottom, starts to crater lol
If it's the birds once they know what it is they are usually on and off the spot all day, is this the case?
I usually bait my spots on an evening after work, mainly boilie once they are on it, a couple of nights before I fish, stops the gulls etc taking them and the birds ease of at night, stops other anglers from seeing too

No Bream present in the lake as far as I am aware, a mate has fished it for a few years and never mentioned bream.
Birds have to surface to swallow so for me the smaller the baits the better over a good spread. You may have done this, if so ignore me. Bait up, fish immediately for 24 hours on your spots, if something is feeding that confidently you should catch one or two of whatever it is. If it's birds you'll see it.

Do you know what Half Century, that was my next port of call for next weeks session. I only get about 12-14 overnight but have always baited the day before I fish and got results. Most places the bait being in place the day prior has done the trick.
Same day baiting (baiting as I am starting to fish) is my next tactic, great minds and that 👍 thanks.

The swim you are baiting isn't unfancied, its one of my favourites, particularly in September. I've been leaving it alone as somebody has obviously been baiting it for a while because the birdlife has been unusually horrendous in there!
Those 20-30 birds, they are clearing you out, they sit there all day long diving on it. Keeps them off my spots though
It was me fishing next to you last night, I drive that white van, there are at least 2 other lake members that post on here as well

Hello,
There are bream in there, but not many. If you are chucking in sacks of particle in the edge in Chimneys, you are wasting your time, the birds will absolutely batter it, as Barry has said. It can be a moody pit at times, you are better off using very good quality boilies on there.

I've turned in my heavy baiting for the moment as the tufties have now got on my spot I've been heavily baiting for months. Caught my first tuftie of the season last.weekend, size 2 right in the centre of the bottom bill
These are the months of diving birds. Oh the joy.
You know you could keep cracking on with the heavy baiting and use the birds as an attractant of types. I'll guarantee the the carp have had a mooch over to see what all the drama and commotion is all about with bird's diving on your spot. But can you keep your cool with your bobbins constantly dancing before a ripping take?
