Finding the slow drag on the Daiwa a pain after having quick drag on my old Aerlex.
I'm sure there's a few mod kits about so which is the one to get? Or can it be done by just removing a felt washer or two?
Also is it normal for the reel to make a sort of ticking noise when reeling in? I'm guessing it's something to do with the casting drop feature.

Remove the spring out of the spool cap and replace it with the hallow spacer or get the south custom reels quick drag cap and carbon washers look on their website

There's a few ways to do it, spool washers would be the easiest to reverse, I know a few who've filled the cap with epoxy which is obviously not reversible, or changing the spring for something solid was another option.
I only Swapped the washers in mine as I wanted them for another reel, I never touch the drag knob tbh

replace the spring in the drag cap with a section of bankstick sawn to about 5-6mm, I QDed by old emblems like this.

replacing all the washers for carbon will speed it up, also swapping the spring in the spool cap will also speed it up by a similar amount doing both together will give you a real quick drag.
i have on occasion slightly bent the bail arm on mine which caused it to make a clicking sound as at a certain position it would just clip the handle might be worth looking at

I just bought a Weston speedcap from the tacklebox. Job done.
cheers all for suggestions and advice. is the Weston speed cap a straight replacement i.e. no permanent mods and you can switch the old cap back at any time?
