I've been doing the odd overnighter on a nice bit of river this year, and had been enjoying it until a farmer moved a small herd of cows into the field.
I'm a bit nervous around cows, and not sure if it's a good idea bivvying up overnight with them.
What's the general consensus? Will I bet fine, or am in danger of being trampled to death in my sleep?

You'll be fine. I've fished around them for many years and never had even a slight problem

I would invest in 4 long stakes and some rope to surround your car
apparently Animals cause over £1 million of damage to over 50 vehicles a year ... licking the paintwork off of cars is common

There are hundreds of them at Sutton, they're no bother but as Gerry says you will need to rope off your car if it's in the field with them as they lick the paint off and use it as a scratching post.
I've got to quite like them, they're just big and clumsy so don't leave stuff on the floor where it could get stood on.

There is a place near me where you can park your car amongst cattle, not sure how many cars get damaged by them licking the paint even though I have seen it happening, the majority of damage to cars is when they lean against the car and start rubbing themselves against it instead of a tree for a good scratch. Many a wing or door gets pushed in or wing mirror broke off or twisted.
As for fishing amongst them, I did it once in the '80's, I woke up one morning and my Bivvy was shaking like hell and could not work out what was happening as there was no wind so my hair stood on end with the unknown. When I plucked up the courage, I jumped out of bed and got out of the Bivvy as quick as I could to find a cow behind the Bivvy licking all the condensation off the top of my it.
As for fencing the car off, you would need to do a good job. The local golf course has concreted steel posts in around the greens with steel wire between the posts, when a cow wants to get in, they just force themselves over it. And it would also need to be strong enough for cows to scratch against as they like a good post and when that gets flattenend. Your car would soon become the next scratching post

Just be very confident make yourself 'big' if you want to move them 'on'. Lymm AC many moons ago on Belmont Estate had Horse/Cattle in the field, on the drink you'd often find them right next to you sticking their head under brolly waking you up with a lick, all fun and games.

Funnily enough i was fishing the peg next to the cattle drink a few years ago....i was awoke by the cows licking my brolley, and they had drank all my water from my bucket, which i keep filled next to my unhooking cradle.....
As mentioned already they just big curious clumsy animals with no malicious intentions.... if you make yourself big you can shoo them away....they generally have a patrol route so will only be in your vicinity for 30 mins or so....... If you see them coming i walk towards them and sort of shoo them around my peg....if you let them get too close rods etc can easily be trampled on......
I would be more careful if they have any calves though as any animal will be very protective when they have offspring......
