I have recently purchased my first bite alarm kit, and will now purchase swingers, or hangers, to go with it. I understand the key function for either is to add some weight to the line for better bite indication. With so many different brands offering swingers and hangers, all with hugely varying prices, i'm left feeling a little confused as to what the major differences in usage between a swinger and hanger actually is, and if the more expensive types are really worth paying for. It seems to me they are quite simple bits of kit and will all do the same job?

Lol I use the fox euro swingers . hangers are good but susceptible to wind causing bleeps which will keep you awake all night unless you balance the hanger weights and alarm sensitivity to the correct levels.
Swingers are much easier to eliminate wind bleeps. Imo.

At £115 for a set of 3 Fox MK2 swingers, i will take a pass on those for now, i'm looking for a set of 3 at considerably less cost. I'm not bothered about electronically pairing the swinger with the bite alarm, i cant see much advantage in doing this, as long as the bite alarm bleeps, thats all that matters, i would think.

Any set of hangers/bobbins will do the job, try to find some with add on weights so you can add or remove for different angling situations.
Swingers are great if it's windy, but to be honest I have a set but haven't felt the need to use them for years. I use the same set of bobbins for everything. old solar bobbins with 5Gand 10g add on weights.
Bobbins pretty much all do the same thing. The price is generally down to how tarty you are rather then how well they perform.
The ESP barrel bobbins are a good bet and they won't break the bank.

You might fancy a look at these Cygnet pivot arms, I paid £5.99 each for these compared with the £25 or so that Solar wants each for its P1 titanium arms, I'm actually really impressed.
I had to buy a packet of 2ba grub screws to connect these to the Matrix Multi Blocks, but that was a fiver and I'm really pleased with these, well built, don't blow around in the wind and I have to say probably one of my better recent purchases.

for years i switch between bobbins and fox specialist swingers
in the end i kept the old style attachment for the swinger and made up a lightweight hanger using parts of a couple of fox bobbins (the change and the attachment buzzer end) and can now change what i use.
shame fox moved away from that attachment.
got my eye on some defiant mps heads for my bobbin chains.
aside from all of the above a cheap kit what allows you to use both is what you want and honestly it only needs to clip on the line and move up and down

I normally use matrix hangers but on days when it's a bit too windy these look ideal.

Just be carful if you want short swingers, as typing in mini swingers, short swingers or dare i say it dwarf swingers will bring up lots of interesting results on google....if your married your best telling the missus first as it can be difficult to explain you've not got a fetish
