Hi all,

I have some questions that I hope you guys can help me with.

when fishing to an island would you use a tight line or not? In my mind I use slack lines to sink the line down so I don't spook the fish but am I missing takes by doing this?

The lake is a clay bottom with silt in areas. I have been using Ronnie rigs on a running rig but is there a better alternative?

If hard up to island then I'd fish tight line so fish can't snag you up. Would only be able to go left/right or drop back to you.

Totally agree, if there are any snags, which there are on most islands, rods should be fished locked up tight and kept a close eye on.

I normally use a slack or semi slack to try and get the line down low. Would you not be concerned that the fish might swim into the line when using a tight line?

The problem with fishing slack or semi to snags is the fish can easily dart into the snag before you've even had a beep on your alarm. Better to have good indication when snag fishing. If you're worried about drop backs look at running lead setup as using this setup should eliminate that

I would check to see if there are snags or not around the island.
If there are no snags I would happily fish slack lines with a running lead, undertow allowing. If there are snags I would be fishing a tight line, don't give any line on the take, hitting any indication.
