I'm clueless on the fishing laws and need information about fishing laws and gov.uk isn't really being helpful on the matter.
I want to fish as a sport, I don't want to catch and eat the fish so would I be okay without any sort of licences?

The price to fish isn't even that much so it really isn't a problem.

You need to have a license
In their simplest terms there are 2 types
1 for salmon
2 for general coarse fish
You need the coarse fishing one
Then it comes down to the amount of rods
I would suggest a 2 rod for this year
The only time you so not need a license is for sea fishing

Hi Mick,
A rod licence is mandatory for all course fishing in the UK. There are options for 2 or 3 rods.
You will then need to either fish day ticket venues (pay on the day), Club or Syndicate venues (Annual membership fee ranging from £20 to £2000 per year depending on venue) or find free places to fish - free fishing more common on the rivers but there are some lakes out there too.
Finding where to fish will be more about local research.
Remember if you fish rivers theres no fishing form 15th March to 15th june inclusive.
