Right. Returning to this hobby after 9 years out. 2 kids and a demanding job put paid to my fishing trips years ago. Now I have the time again, I want to get back into fishing. I went last weekend with my pal and his boy. I didn't fish, I went for the day out and to see what's what. Anyway, I was watching a fella stalking and he seemed to be having a good day. Which prompts the question. What would be a decent setup for stalking?

My rod of choice for stalking and floater fishing is a tfg compact commercial. 10 ft 2.5 lb tc
Nice forgiving action to take the first lunge and works well casting freelined floaters.
Possibly a bit long for pure stalking in some areas but works very well for me, especially for accurately casting floaters, which definitely accounts for more of my victims than pure stalking alone.
I've tried several of my reels but still prefer my little okuma electron primarily because of its light weight.
My top tip would be to cast within 6 to 12 inches of an island or a carp's safe area and you stand a very good chance of a take if it's home.

I personally use a Korum Opportunist 10ft 2.25lb test curve rod with a Fox EOS 10000FD reel. I find it a nice light, balanced set up that is also good for surface fishing. Fairly affordable aswell.

I use an old version Wychwood Extricator 9ft 2.75tc and old Baitrunner Aero 4000, Gardner Pro Light Blend mainline.

I have a pair of Nash Scope snides that I use for stalking. Primarily got them for going on holiday as they pack down so small but have ended up using them alot more over here too as they are great rods. Any number of small light reels to fit on them, the Daiwa Whiskers as very popular but I have the wychwood riot 55s as I didnt want to spend too much. They are a great reel to put on them
