Hi everyone,
This one isn't for me but a friend who doesn't do anything like this online.
They are after a new reel and are torn between a shimano Ultegra 5500 (£135) or a Wychwood big riot (£65) or Daiwa Windcast QDA Reel (£100)
What reel would you guys recommend, there is a big price difference between them and from what I've seen when I've had a quick look the Wychwood seems to have an issue with line lay which is why i avoided them recently.

I had a look at both the windcast and ultegra when I swapped mine
and after some advice on here ended up with Emcasts 25a
Exceptional reels for the money at £75 each with a spare spool. Might be worth him looking at those as well.

I have the riots not bad reels at all for the money, not had any problems with line lay on them yet, only negative for me is the line twist is can be bad at times

Windcast is one of diawas worst and the whychwood is pathetic a guy next to me in France was using them and they were all shot on their first fish .All of them had shot gears .Call them big pits they really are not fit for the purpose at all .

Penn's are a good shout if your looking for a true but out, I had the okuma 8k, they were too large for what I needed but a really, really nice reel for the money. Line lay was good and clutch was great to use

Must have gone to shiz the quality then? my mates still using my old reels (riots) from like 7 or 8 years ago just for spod and marker and piking in winter and I didn't treat my tackle good back then

Had mine for 12 months and they seem fine to me, had no probs yet with them, ok not in the same league as reels twice the price but they are twice the price,

Been using the Ultegra 5500 for a few months - It's compact with good line lay and ideal for pretty much all situations. The clutch takes a few spins to go from loose to locked up but I see there are aftermarket washers that can be bought easily enough, in all it seems a decent enough reel. Sorry but can't comment on the others.
