Hi all,

I am new to spodding I am looking for a small reel to use for spodding with my 9ft 4.5tc rod. I wont be casting very far as I tend to only fish small lakes so a huge big pit is not needed.

I was originally looking at the Sonik 6000rs because of its 1.1m line retrieval however I cant find it in stock anywhere.

I only want to spend £50-70 and have found the daiwa gs4000ltd for around that price. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also would 32lb daiwa x4 J braid be suitable straight through for casting a dot spod out at around 50 yards?

I had a set of the Daiwas on my pike rods. I would say that they are a bit lightweight for pulling in a spent spomb repeatedly.

Buy a proper spod reel, using a small thing like a gs will likely kill it in no time at all

do you think an 8000 spod reel would be too big for a 9ft rod ?

I was also looking at the sonik vader 8000 spod reel but I wrote it off as I thought it would be too big.

No it will be fine. If you can find one a mitchell avospod isn't quite a small spod reel and decent. Cheap too

i disagree, use a small sized spomb at short distances and the reel will be fine

And that will take hours just to get a kg or 2 out...
