Hi everyone,
Ive been fishing for years on old tackle and now that the rods and reels have finally given up the ghost I'm looking to get 2 new rods and 2 new reels. The lakes i fish aren't huge (70m across) and largest Carp would be around 30lbs max from what I've been told.
i unfortunately don't have a huge budget looking around £400 for everything.
The rods I've been looking at are Tribal TX-2s 12ft 2.75 or Advanta Discovery CSX V2 Carp Rods, Length: 12ft, Test Curve: 3lb, Butt: 50mm all the reviews are pretty much the same it feels and the Advent are a fraction of the cost but I'm not 100% sure about their long term quality.
Then for reels either a Shimano Ultegra XTD Reel, Size: 5500 i know this isn't a baitrunner which i normally fish with but the reviews I've seen of this reel seem pretty impressive so I'm considering moving over to this style of reel, or i go for a shamano bait runner (no idea which one as there seems to be about 10 different types) or a Daiwa Emcast BR but people have said recently the quality of the Daiwa stuff has dropped recently.
So basically I'm completely confused and need some advice. When people say you can never have too much info they have obviously never sat looking at google for hours at different rod and reel combos with the slightest letter changing in the name changing the reel entirely

Sounds like the kind of water that I'd use my 1.5lb specialist rods/daiwa 4012 TDMs on to be honest - unless the average fish is 20lb+.
I'd have thought the chub 2.75lb 11ft small waters (if any are about) or a tfg commercial compact rod in 2.5lb (have rave reviews) would be good for. Pair them with a shimmy baitrunner (not big pit) and you'll have a ser up that is more than man enough, fun to play fish on and you'll have a couple of quid left over.

Agreed I would go for a small water set up as well maybe have a look at the 10ft sonik rods or something similar and again a shimano baitrunner and be within your budget

The Tribals will do you fine and so will the Shimano reels you mention.

Another vote for tfg compact commercial, far better than their price suggests and a life time guarantee.
I've paired mine with light reels 220g or 350g depending whether I'm on the surface or bottom and they feel nicely balanced with a light reel.

You won't go far wrong with the Sonik rods and reels as they are very well made and exceptionally good value for money.

Cant get the TFG's for love nor money, and annoyingly the Tribals have just sold out of the 2.75Lb TC, so was chatting to someone else about this and he also mentioned the Soniks mainly the Dominator X's saying they are excellent.

Just been offered 2 x Daiwa Crosscast BR 5000 for £45 new each and can pick up either 2 soniks for £140 or 3 Advantas for £100 what are your thoughts?
