Hi. So currently using hi s I've er in 12 foot coupled with shimano 1400
I can cast 22 x 25 wraps at a push
I have had hi s 3 lb, torrix 3 1/4! Sonik 3 1/2 and sonik 3 1/4
They all seem to go the same distance, I know my technique is not great but getting older and suffering with a bad back
Watched some of the distance casting videos and seem to be not to far wrong
I know I am not compressing the rod as good as I should
Is there a combination that people could recommend that could get me that bit further
Looking at hi s 3 1/4 in 13 foot but will the result still be the same
Looking for any helpful advice If anyone could help

All rods you mention will cast further than 100 yards. Unfortunately there ain't any rod that can give you more distance with the same technique. Technique is everything if you want distance there cannot be a substitution for it. Maybe have a look at a tuition loads cheaper than a set of rods and depending on how your back is it's definitely going to help you cast further. I would look into that before buying rods.

Definitely the way. A good tutor will give you all the info on reels, lines, leaders, leads and other essential casting knowledge as well as technique. He could probably bring along a few different rods to try. Could save you a lot of money.

I know a lot of my problem is technique but I'm reluctant to really go for it with my back
I also play golf and can hit the ball a good distance and I know it's my timing and using equipment that suits my swing. This is why I am asking about better rods to suit me.

My story for what it is worth.
I'm 63 years old and I work in an office so physical strength is not my strong point.
I have fished since I was very young and my best casts were from the side (beachcaster style)
I was struggling to fully load my Century C2-D's rods.
I eventually booked a lesson Feb last year with Terry Edmonds and met him nr Colchester. After one cast he took my rod off me. He gave me a Harrison Aviator 13' 3.5lb rod to try.
Straight away I was hitting 100 metres and after Terry's tuition I was hitting 143 metres into a 50mph wind.
My accuracy also improved. Dont buy a new set of rods until you've had a lesson with Terry - Terry charges around £100 for a 1 to 1 lesson for a whole morning - in that morning he will sort a rod out that suits you and have you casting further than you thought you were capable of.
Like others have said, a casting lesson will help alot - and sometimes a change of rods - but it helps if the person teaching knows what rod will work best for you. Terry takes a range of rods to the lesson (though now he uses Shimano rods rather than Harrison).
After the lesson I bought a set of Harrison Aviators 13' 3.5. I've never looked back. I am tempted to have another lesson to see if I can gain a little more.

Different rods wont just add distance, or "better suit your technique". If your technique is out, then that's what needs looking at. Pretty much any rod will get to 100yards if used correctly. Forget new rods and get yourself a lesson

That would be my first thought before rods or a lesson which might come later perhaps.

That doesn't sound good , maybe you should be considering a bait boat to save your back , you only get one !

You say that you can't compress these powerful, high TC rods so why not just try dropping down to, say, a 2.75tc rod? My old Ballistas are really easy to compress and will do 100yds+ with 6010 Baitrunners on. I'm sure so of the modern 2.75tc's would be even better.

Hi. This was the kind of answer I was looking for. I feel like I have been buying Ferrari's but am a novice driver.
When I saw this guy hit thirty wraps without to much effort using Standard rods and not the latest cast to the moon rods I felt there was options out there for me. He had 13 foot 3 1/4 rods 18 lb line and shimmied big pits It all looked effortless.
Would 13 foot 3 1/ 4 hi s or equivalent give me that bit more or am I still in the minefield. Would happily go for a lesson but at the moment flat out with sciatica thanks for any help and replies

I literally feel your pain mate. I have bad sciatica as well as arthritis in my right shoulder, elbow and wrist. Often takes me best part of a day to recover from transporting my kit and setting up on a pit.
Anyway, I use Harrison Aviator Plus rods in 12ft 3lb 6oz and can fish efficiently at 120 yards. I've just bought a set of Shimano 13 ft TX9 Intensities to go a little longer. Early days with these, but a quick test over a field I went another 15 yards straight away. I'm sure I can do better as I get used to them.

Before buying anything new mate get to the lake and have a practice. With the er's have your lead about 2 inch below the spigot try a 3.5oz lead,extend your arms and lean back until the leads nearly touching the floor then walk into the cast. 13ft rods would definitely help but you'd still need to compress those.

Hi mate. Yep it's hard to explain to people. I can lay flat all day but put me in a chair for 30 minutes and you could take all my gear and I couldn't stop you. I have to keep moving or lay flat no in between
I will try to book a lesson when I'm up and about again. At least it will let me try other rods. Thanks for you help. Cheers
