Hi guys I'm just started fishing I've been given some fishing stuff a Shimano dl 6000 reel with 12lb line and a Shimano 12ft marker rod test curve 3lb can I use this rod for feeder fishing or with a lead leader with a hair rig or hook an band ? Or should I be using a quiver tip type rod ? Thanks in advance be kind I'm just starting up 😂😂

Not sure how old you are but Not far from Oxford, if you can don't fanny about go for a good long walk around linear and spend a couple of hours in their shop, when circumstances allow that is.

As a broad answer to your question, yes you can go fishing with that set up. But its not one anyone would be likely to recommend. Marker rods tend to have a very ‘fast' action. Basically that means they dont bend much and when they do they tend to spring back quickly. Great for marker work but you might find you pull hooks out of fish as beginners normally use a softer action rod thats a bit more forgiving.

Thanks guys for the reply I went a couple of weeks ago with friends social distancing at all times An really enjoyed myself bagged five smallish carp by the end of the day too, the reel is a bait runner so was hoping that would help as the fish can run with the bait an hopfully hook I am most probably wrong but I am trying 😂

Harvey I think etiquette died many moons ago on almost every ticket I have ever had apart from the odd person it's a forgotten thing these days.

Rubbish mate. You have poor tickets by the sound of it. 95% of anglers show great etiquette, apart from maybe day tickets.

I'd like to suggest maybe buying a few magazines like Total Carp, that usually covers most stuff for beginners, helped me massively when I first started out. Loads of advice online too if the old school way of learning ain't for you.
Actually just going fishing helps you learn too and like previous comments have said fish care should be paramount, decent unhooking mat/carp care etc. If you need any help I'm sure most people on here will, just ask away whatever you're not sure about.

Hi mate,
The set up that you have there will be perfect for method feeder fishing. Have a look on you tube
If your using normal feeders then a quiver tip rod would be a better choice.

Yep and any experienced angler should always be prepared to help a beginner, or give advice up to a point.
Just dont be a punisher (ask too much, too often) respect other peoples angling and you wont go far wrong.
Another tip is start on a place where you will get lots of action as thats the best way to learn fast.

Jimbo i agree, mostly but......etiquette will only come once someone has explained the reasons behind whatever the situation may be.

Maybe it is down to poor tickets but apart from the odd few folks etiquette in none existent. Swims on rotation, reserving swims for people who ain't arrived yet. On a dayticket I even got offerd cash to move. You have a fish and leads crashing in over halfway. You put in effort priming up Unfancied areas have a few fish and it's the most popular peg on the lake. Etiquette is definitely not as it once was at least on my tickets.
