Apols - hate your standard 'What Bedchair?' post as it infers I've done no research but in this instance I have - as a confirmed 'old skool' carper however who rarely fishes I'm confused so need your help please . . .
Most recent 2x bedchairs I've bought were both Nash Indulgence - the first was a wideboy (when it first came out) that I've kept and still keep for French trips only . . .did 3-4 week long sessions before it started to sag but nothing a few straps couldn't sort. Goes perfectly with my mahoosive sub 20 bag but neither are any good for standard UK 24-48hrs sessions.
Based on the 'relative' comfort of the wideboy I bought an original standard Indulgence (camo matress) for UK use and initially when paired with my fox Evo Ventec (smooth not fleece lining) it was great but again, started to sag after a short time period - so much so that my battered original JRC Cocoon became a more comfy proposition.
Having sold the standard Indulgence recently (it was gathering dust) and having the urge to go fishing I'm now in the market for a back friendly, lightweight and comfy bedchair. Would prefer to use my Evo Ventec bag as its perfect (IMO) but need a decent bed . . .on this basis would rather not have to buy into a 'sleep system' however I'm open to being convinced . .
HELP! Honest, user based opinions only please

if you sleep on your back ???
as most people with back issues find its the only comfortable position you will tend to want a firm bed
but if you sleep on your side ?
a hard bed wont be comfortable so need a soft one either way a Self inflating mat will really help any bed
a bed worth looking at that is light and firm is the Wychwood Tactical X Flat Beds
and best prices I have found are here

For some unknown reason i always sleep on my left side. I've put a 10cm thick sim on my nash ss3 and it's made a big improvement. I've had to replace the sleep system with a gardner duvet compact bag. This is also an improvement.

A mistake a lot of people make is to over inflating the sim the air needs room to move around other wise its a bit pointless
I convinced my mate to buy a sim then he moaned he had just wasted 50 quid and called me a w***er !
until I realised the soppy **** was blowing it up
(its not an air bed)
I let half the air out the next morning he came round with a big grin apologised and shook my hand

Hi Gerry - how are you? Sure I bought some rods off you a few years back - hope you're wel!
I generally sleep on my back (when in deep sleep) but do turn occasionally and sleep on my side when in half sleep (after a fish / in anticipation) or at dawn when snoozing etc.
NEVER slept on a full 'flat' bed-chair - this was new tech that I never bought into and by this time trips were mainly France only . . .
NEVER slept on memory foam - always thought they might be a bit sweaty although if they are as comfy as mooted would be keen to try
NEVER slept on a bedchair with Lumbar support - bought some Nash straps for the wide boy and always ensured the elastics were tightened every season . . .
As previous - barring the wideboy bag which allows you to stretch out starfish style, prefer bags with smooth lining so you can move more easily - feels cooler, less sweaty . .

I use the Mountain Equipment Helium 3.8 Warm Zone Sleeping Mat its the perfect size to fit inside the raised edges of most bedchairs and when deflated stays permanently on the bed no problems and it does 2 things acts as wonderful insulation on cold nights and you get an increase in comfort level
and out of interest I would never touch a memory foam bedchair after wasting over £500 on a mattress for my home many years ago and found it does not and cannot breath hence you will sweat your gonnads off in the summer

I would agree with the memory foam in summer but in the winter its amazing ... I use a Solar bedchair in the summer and in the winter use the Cyprinus Memory foam bedchair and both suit me fine .. When fishing on rivers to keep weight down I use a JRC lightweight bedchair with the 3.8mm sleeping mat and its good enough

I've had a SIM for a while after suffering from bad back while on the bedchair. Helped a bit at first but was still suffering after a night. Two things that stopped the bad back are NOT putting in any extra air onto the SIM and also an extra pillow.
Mine stays on the bedchair when it's folded. Once it's layed out flat I leave it for a while then just close the valve, don't put any extra air in at all. Makes it much more comfortable :-)

Exactly what the instructions say to do leave it 45 mins and close valve and I do just that

it will be fine on the standard mate I use 2 beds one a ELS and also on the wychwood compact on the river it dont move at all and is plenty big enough will fit virtually any bed as it fits in between the outer raised rim
and sorry never seen that before ?

Cheers - looking at weight, reviews and bang for buck this looks a good call - thanks for the advice - even with the £50 SIM the Wychwood package is a few notches cheaper (and lighter) than most of the competition
Not sure about the link I sent - a) Its a French tackle manufacturer & b) its standard perimeter elastics so cannot believe it won't sag eventually . . .like the SIM integration but also nervous if it punctured etc as presumably less easy to fix than an aftermarket version . . .
Also rate Mountain Equipment - have loads of their gear for winter / skiing etc and its bulletproof . ..

yes there are fishing makes now and cheaper alternatives but I prefer the quality and reliability of Mountain Equipment after all this gear is designed to be laid directly on the ground and slept on so if you put it on an already padded/sprung bedchair I cant ever see it getting punctured ? I heard about someone that was moaning that their 20 quid sim was making their bed wet but I have never experienced any of that in this instance I firmly believe you get what you pay for
The ONLY reason I initially invested in a quality SIM in the first place was purely for insulation as I found when up on the windswept banks of the river Trent with a North or east wind belting thu the door I was feeling the cold coming from below on my back the SIM instantly eliminated it
and I was shocked as a bonus how the comfort level shot up its just perfection now

Went for the Tactical X on your advice although not yet had the chance to fully test in anger. . .first impressions are good.
Was 50/50 between compact and standard so went for standard as I'm 6'1 . . .fook are all 'standard' bedchairs now this massive? Fox Evo Ventec Lite bag fits but only just! Set it up in the garden with my Ultralite and its a squeeze but ok . . (210cms is long for anything other than a session bedchair IMO)
In hindsite maybe compact would have been a better choice however for the price I cannot complain . . .pleased with weight, quality looks fine for my sporadic / low usage needs (perimeter fabric is a bit plastic but not an issue when covered with a bag) so just looking for a SIM to finish it off as per your recommendation . . .
Inner perimeter dims on the standard are 60cms wide / 175cms long (inner fleece section) so feel the helium 3.8 may be a bit narrow - found a wider / cheapy on ebay so going to try this in the first instance
