I have just bought a second hand solar sod pod with a spare center bar, do the bosses on the center bar come off as I want to be able to use the bar without bosses at the end as an extension bar. Basically I want a boss and bar with the locking device at each end and a plain bar in the middle, which would give an extra 15 to 18 inches overall length once extended. By boss I mean the bit at the end that the legs and buzzbars screw into

They are pressed on. They will come off if you put it in a vice and knock them off but will more than likely mark it. Heat will help.

Solar did do a seperate extension bar which i use, but they rarely come up for sale unfortunately.

I'm sure you could go to a local engineering firm and pick a lump of stainless up
There are a couple of companies on eBay that could be worth a look
Would probably be a lot cheaper And quicker than buying a pod and dismantling it

Yes the bosses do knock off, they appear to be cold pressed onto a spigot. I had 2 Sod Pods converted to quick release pre worldwide pod, a original Sod where the boss came off easily and a Super Sod which required a little more force.
If you hold the bar and tap the boss with a hammer, rotating on each tap you may be lucky and it will come straight off, you may have to tap it many times to do this, if you use a clean hammer (not burred) it shouldn't mark. I had a friend shave the spigots so there was a less tight tolerance making it easier to push on and off. As for quick release, I used a SS peg, a hole drilled through centre bar and spigot, peg in, job done. As already mentioned Solar do make a extension bar, this Ebay listing number has finished but gives you a idea 293510988577. You could probably have a custom fixed centre bar made easily, to fit on the existiing spigots, but with the extensions going for around £20-30 on Ebay is it worth it?
