Long time follower of this forum and this is my first post.
Given recent developments and seeing that anglers can finally go back to the bank, it got me thinking about the desire to take up carp fishing again.
I haven't been fishing for around two years now. This was coupled with a bad break up with the ex and having all my stuff nicked from my garden shed. I was absolutely gutted. Years of equipment gone. But I remember at the time, I didn't want to replace it, as I had enough of angling.
I had enough of the Danny Fairbrass-esque crew, turning up to fisheries with their wide-boy attitude, being loud, abrasive and general condescending attitude. I couldn't have a 48 hour fishing trip, without experiencing some form of "Sonik rods mate?" or "You know you should probably invest in big pit reels mate.." whilst fishing a standard sized lake.
Loud, boozy and blatant cocaine users.
Fishermen are private creatures by nature, it's why we take up the sport, but I'm not adverse to having a chat with a fellow angler by any means. Hell, I'll talk about anything, doesn't even have to be fishing. I also get it can be quite social and we want to go with friends, as do I. But I wouldn't dream of behaving the way some of these guys do.
What I couldn't ever get my head around was the influx of this type of angler. They'd be in the tackle shop, being unnecessarily loud about how much they'd spent and that "the missus won't be 'appy!". I went to Cherpont in France a few times and I'm sure I shared the entire lake with them on each trip.
My reason for the unnecessary rant, is I wonder if anyone else has the same views I guess? I've sat around today wondering do I make a sincere investment in getting some equipment back and hitting the banks again, but I'm having some morale dilemmas as to whether I'm likely to experience this environment again.

The negatives only exist if you acknowledge them. I've been carp fishing for nearly 25 years and I love it as much now as I did the first time I went. I just ignore all the b*llocks I dont like. Problem solved.
It's not going to get any better. Ignore it and enjoy some fishing. Or focus on the negatives and hate it.

I was exactly the same, can't stand what has become in modern carp angling, I avoid day tickets like the plague, around 2015 I stopped fishing in the UK all together, surviving on to trips a year to a stunning French water where none of the crap you've described takes place.
I then had a chance encounter with an angler from my past, he asked if I was doing much fishing, I told him just the 2 trips a year to France, I explained that I just couldn't find a place to fish that got the fire going, luckily he had just started a small syndicate on some special lakes and asked if I'd like to have a look, that was 2018, I now have 2 syndicates, one for spring/summer/autumn and one for the winter, luckily the fire is back, for me I needed to find the right place to fish and I'm happy in my angling again, hope you can do the same.. 👍

For what it's worth, I won't go near a busy circuit water these days. Quiet waters for smaller fish for me nowadays - took a bit of readjusting at first, but I love it now and almost always enjoy it.
Don't have much time with work and the nippers, so the chance of nabbing a 20 or something a bit bigger if I'm really lucky on a worknight or early morning trip does for me 👍🏻

This is what I miss. Just fishing, for fishing sake.
No boasting, bragging. Just plain and simple fishing.
I'm hoping Redfin Angling Club (Linton in Kent, if anyone knows it!?) has any spaces. This is where I first remember cutting my teeth on angling. Was extremely quiet and hopefully hasn't attracted those types!

I'm with you on this, as said, find the right water and it will come good. I'll fish anywhere these people aren't even if they're on the fish. I go to get away from the idiocracy, not having plankton barge into my swim asking "woss in 'ere ven mate?". I tell them giraffes and tigers, they look suitably baffled.

I fish several different commercial waters over the season including Linear and most of the people I have ever met have been quiet and considerate and I'd be happy to share a brew with them. Some carp video's can be a bit "bosh" but as long as I can get something out of them, I'm happy to put up with it.
I think that your problem isn't fishing as such but what life has thrown at you, your break up and the theft of your tackle. We are living in uncertain times with the Corona Virus and most people would probably consider themselves "less happy" than a few months ago. Unfortunately divorces, bankruptcy and depression rates will probably go through the roof. Take stock of what you have and look for positives, ranting and bringing other people down isn't the best way forward.

There are "chavs" everywhere you go, at the football, in the pub, at the supermarket, work etc, why should fishing be immune to having its share? I'm sure we would all prefer the Mr Crabtree days but unfortunately that aint life now....
So it's a case of accepting it for what it is, tolerate/ignore what you don't like about life and getting on with your own stuff or letting it get to you and stopping you enjoying what you like. I know what my choice is...

Your comments about the Korda boys are bang out of order and way off the mark. Have you actually met them? Do they actually fish your waters?
I can tell you from first hand experience that they are decent lads. Damien Clarke has a ticket for the same water as me, he also fishes another water with friends of mine. Guess what. No issues. Adam Penning (yes I know he's not at Korda anymore) has the same ticket as me. Guess what. No issues. Paul Harris I know from his time on the road, good lad who I've offered to fish with me on another one of my waters, which I sure as hell wouldn't do if he was a chavy bellend. Ali and Tom I've spoken to at length at shows and guess what, they are decent lads as well.
There's a lot of *****s in this world. In all walks of life. Unfortunately some of them will be anglers. But that's nothing to do with Danny Fairbrass or Korda. That business has ploughed more back into our hobby than probably any other one in the history of carp fishing. Have you got any idea how much of his own money Danny has spent otter fencing club waters for free or at cost, for clubs that couldn't afford them, to secure the fishing for people he's probably never even met.

I agree. I rarely fish day tickets but I've done plenty of time on circuit waters and I don't really see these idiots that people refer to. It makes you wonder about the folks that claim to come across these guys all the time. I question the social skills of these guys and wonder if it's just a complete lack of tolerance towards others?
One of the best things about carp fishing, for me, is the diversity of personalities you meet. From the young lads full of enthusiasm with all the lingo to the old boys doing it on the quiet. Cops, robbers, builders, lawyers, pot heads and full timers. United by a love of carp fishing. 99.9% of them are sound and I feel sorry for anyone that is unable to focus on anything other than the remaining 0.01%.

Firstly I am not a carp angler, I'm an angler that very occasionally fishes for them. I am an all round river angler, and not particularly good either
If you despair at the sort of angler and venue you mention, why not try river fishing for carp. I help out on some Facebook groups and one is for river carp. I quite often see pictures of some stunning fish and have yet to see one of them actually giver a name. The people I meet on the riverbank are normally likeminded, decent people too.

That's good advice. I just can't find a water in Sussex that has what I am looking for, within a relatively short drive from home. But the rivers are great. Guaranteed space and fewer muppets. Carp in the summer, pike in the winter - great fun!
