Just after a bit of reassurance really. Ive got a set of daiwa basia x45 2.25 barbel rods and ive just bought some daiwa castizm 25qda's to go on them and when i put them on the rods the rear foot on the reel only goes i to the rear hood on the reel seat about 3/16 of an inch. The reel is rock solid when screwed into place though but i would of preferred it to of gone in further. Will this be ok?

Hi mate i know you've been a long time angler so forgive me if this sounds like I'm teaching you to suck eggs so to speak its not intentional but i normally find new reel seats relax after a while so do it up as tight as you can then leave it a couple of hours and try again, its surprising how much extra that can give you.

Cheers Ian. Never had a rod with a reel seat that seemed this tight in all the years ive been fishing. The foot on the reel has always went in much further.

Is it a 16mm or 18mm seat Stuart as i know some specialist rods use slightly smaller seats so if thats the case ignore the below ramblings

Not sure Ian, its a fuji seat but doesnt have the size on it. They fit perfect into my drennan 1.25 chub rod as tried them on it but thats an after market drennan seat not fuji mate. The reel foot on the castizms is a strange shape as it tapers from fat to thin not a normal straight parallel foot like most reels.

Oh crumbs, i have filed the lugs from reel seats before to help with width and alignment issues but depth ways is a different issue, hopefully the below method will gain a bit for you mate

Its the width that tapers not the depth Ian. Most reel feet are parallel the castizm width of the foot tapers from wide to narrower so it only goes in a little bit as it stops going any further due to it getting to wide mate.

Think fuji only do the down locking seats suitable for Cork in 16 and 17 while most carp rods with dps seats are 18 or 20.

Daiwa reels are notorious for having bulky reel feet and as stated below
the rod you have chosen is a specialist rod and has likely got a small seat.

They will be fuji dps 16mm on those rods id bet , do not file down your reel as if you ever want to move them on you will get nothing for them , also dont try to cut the reel seat it will weaken it .either change rods or reels.pain i know i make sure people tell me what reels they are using when i build rods.

Or get a rod builder to remove the existing seats and replace with others!!

Cheers for the feedback. Im just going to keep both as I love the rods. The reel is rock solid when screwed on it just dosent go in as far as im used to.
