First post here so apologies if this is the wrong section.
Looking to get some new mid range reels this week and have been pretty focused on the Shinano ultegra XTD and Ci4+ XTD.
Has anyone got any personal use with either this and let me know the major differences
Between the two and if so which one Is better ? I know about the line guard so that's why I started to consider the Ci4 over the XTD ?
Any help would be appreciated

The xtd is not really a mid range reel,they don't do a ci4+ version of it either last time I looked.For that sort of money I would look at the Penn 7000s,the shimano xtd is not a very good reel.Issues with line guards,parts inside the reel failing.I recently got two Power Aero's mainly for the x protect on them as I fish Astbury at Congleton(sand everywhere).Im hoping being made in Japan they will be better than the cheaper shimano reels,I have only managed to put line on them so far and first impressions are not great if I'm honest

Sorry, I did mean the Ci4+ XTC, I will definitely take a look at the Penn 7000's from both recommendations. Astbury is actually really close to me but never actually taken a look.

It's a lovely water,got some very nice fish in.Its not easy with depths of 55ft in places but Stoke are really putting alot of time into it.I love it down there,members are all friendly and most of the dog walkers and public are the same

I have been using the Shimano Beastmaster reels for a few years, love them.

Another vote for the Penn reels. I don't think you can get anything better for this sort of money and even spending considerably more you won't get much improvement. Very good reels all round

For mid range i think you don't need big pits, i have searched new reels this year (big pits) and at the end i was struggling between shimano or daiwa and i choose Daiwa Emblem 45 scw qd - and i dont regret it at all.

Imo in that price range the Penn are the best of the bunch,if they had a Daiwa or Shimano badge on them they would be alot dearer
