im looking for some advice. I gave up fishing about 15 years ago and just recently my 11yr old daughter wanted to start fishing. after a few goes with a pole catching small silver she has decided she want to carp fish.. No problem i thought, Ive not fished for carp for 15 years but looking forward to getting back into it.
I have seen the 9ft Nash rods available and thought they would be great for her to start with as easier to control. Our local waters will be small/medium day ticket and not casting very far. - 1oz lead. maybe small PVA bag on occasion.
Anyway talking to the guy in angling direct he advised on the Nash Dwarf ES 9ft 3lb tc. I thought the TC was a bit overkill for what we want but he said 3lb was the norm now and technology has moved on since i last fished and you can use a 3lb TC rod. etc etc .
the reel we are using are shimano baitrunner 4000 dl
Well the rod is advertised as a 'strong progressive action' and has little flex in the tip to what i was used to using. years ago.
My question (s) is if anyone can advise...
Is this rod like a broom handle due to it being a budget rod £52.99?
Is 3lb really the norm and needed these days? i cant imagine there is much feed back from playing a fish on it.
Would i be better exchanging it for a 2.75lb Nash Dwarf ES Rod? (due to lock down its not been used so i still can)
Would the Nash Dwarf Shrink rod 3lb at £75 be a better option?
Or something else in a 9ft length?
i want my daughter (and me) to enjoy the play of the fish not just bully and drag it in?

Look at the sonik xtractor or recon you can get a lower tc in these 8ft 2.5tc or xtractor 2.75 9ft or 10ft might be a better option

Dwarf rods are really soft . Way softer than a 3lb tc rod normally is.

The korum opportunist rods are nicer than a lot of the carp specific rods, I think it's 8ft 2lb tc I bought my son, soft enough in the tip for bream, tench, feels OK for chub/perch and we've had carp over 20 and barbel to just under 10lb. Lovely multi purpose rods and great for kids
There's also a 10ft 2.25 version

That Korum rod would have been a far better choice especially considering it's for your 11year old daughter.
Very poor advice from angling direct in my eyes.
It depends on the size of fish you intend to catch but I would suggest something she can put a decent bend into the rod.
1.75 to 2.5 lb tc would be more than adequate to turn a 20lb plus carp and also be light enough to enjoy.

Agree with Duggs 2 to 2.25 korum opportunist good rods for price I don't think she needs any higher tc than that it would keep the fun in it for smaller fish 3lb tc to heavy

Not 9ft but have a look at the TF gear compact commercial 10ft 2.5lb tc rods £29.99 on eBay cracking rod for the money and a joy to use

Check out the Daiwa Powermesh Stalker 9ft 2.75lbs. Nice through action and sensible ringing.

Went in and asked Gave them the exact details manufacturer model etc and they said “they don't make them”
Really what's this then (just a different model)
Oh we don't have any of them in but we can get them in 2 or 3 days

I've never been to one, can't say I remember buying online from them either
