Hi, looking for reels to suit the esp vertex distance 12ft 9 3.5lb tc.
I don't really want anything massive, was thinking of Shimano 14000 xtd, how do they compare to the 5500?
Or speedmaster 10000?
Any recommendations please on a medium sized pit reel?

Lovely rods (assuming we are talking about the original version)
- Fox FX11 are very good - had a set for a few years now and wouldnt go back to Shimano after owning XTB's & XTC's which i thought were pretty poor reels) unless it was for Baitrunners ... or what about matching up with ESP Onyx reels ... I have read some good reviews on them though not owned myself

I've got a set of those rods and use shimano technicums xsc with them, not the mags. Think they weigh 550gms, appreciate these are not in everyone's price range but would not want to use anything heavier unless I really had to.

I use those rods for most of my carping except extreme range. I use SS 3000 with them and balance perfectly. Could look for a set of tournament's. I'm sure the tournament weight is about 20oz so something around that would be my choice.

Have a shop round, the Shimano Beastmasters are better than many more expensive reels from either Daiwa or Shimano.

I have 5500 ultegra ci4's on my free spirits, I was wondering how much bigger the 14000 size is? They don't stock them in my local shop to have a play.
