Just been shown a story of the above creature found dead on a tow path...
Wonder how it got there?
(Rewilders again reintroducing an animal that never existed.....lol)....anyway...
What do esteemed CF members reckon...?

They'll be a protected species before the week's out

Reckon your right about that mate...lol
Maybe someone kept it as a pet, or similar, what an odd creature to be found in this country...
Makes you wonder what else has been let go into the wild, and survived, and prospered even..

Big cold the UK weather for it to grow to that size in the wild so to speak.Perhaps got too big for the owner who would have to have it indoors,so he dumped it in the nearest waterway and it then died

Apart from the sub plot of invasive/reintroduced species as always, Not sure if you can buy them as food in the U.K, not intact anyway. The likelyhood is that its a dumped pet and if thats the case as with all aresholes who do that sort of thing I hope what comes around goes around

A long time back,i...A chap living near by had two black panther cubs, and in the summer he`d walk them up and down the high street on chains all the holiday people would stop and stare ,some would cross over the road because the old man was frail for certain ,and to be honest those animals could have pulled him over, then one day they was gone !!..I`d see him about but no cubs....I asked around and found out that the old chap was a ww2 fighter pilot ,very highly regarded, but somewhat of a figure of fun to some, but not me though...
As I said those panthers disappeared, where did they go?....
One night on the moor ,fishing this wild pool, whicch I now manage ,a sheep a big ewe was throat ripped right behind me,i was under an old 45inch shelter and storm sides ....
Have you ever heard an animal scream ,its primeval and chills you to the bone....what did that damage to that sheep was not dog,nor fox it was something else ..and I remember all of Pickerings flock still huddled together in one corner of the moorland field....
Stuff goes on in these wild places, and even animals that are enclosed can escape...
Just ask my mate, because his serval got out and was lucky to get it back....

It was found after a flood - I wonder if someone had it in a heated pond and it found its way to the edge of the canal in flood water. No expert on them but would've thought it would of died near instantly on release in these temps.
When Keynsham flooded in 1968, the waters subsided in the houses and eventually the water in one chap's goldfish tank cleared. There were no goldfish, just a lone perch swimming about. Same story bigger tank?
Didn't a large sturgeon come out of the Kennet and Avon canal last year? I used to fish a pool that had a load of terrapins living in it.
Could be worse, the Everglades in Florida are allegedly home to over 100,000 Anacondas up to about thirty feet in length.
The world is full of idiots that can't see farther then their eye lashes.

To be honest,I think you guys in England have it sweet. Here in Ireland there are a large contingent who think Pike are still an invasive species
Carp? You have to jump through hoops, then do 6 backflips while juggling 12 beers to get permission to stock them.
We've no Barbel.... Chub nor Dace (officially) and no Wells.
Just as well Tench are my thing or I'd be golfing or something else mundane
