Hello ..... having now become old and feeble, my hands and wrists end up hurting badly whilst bait making (I also suffer from FM so the pain takes days to go). I use a Gardner XT gun at the moment but was wondering if anyone can recommend an electric alternative. Don't really want to start buying compressors.
Any and all info gratefully received.
Thanks

Have a look at electric caulking guns, IIRC same size barrel as the Gardner XT, not cheap though, seem to remember someone has the Milwaukee one.

Ryobi do a good one whats cheaper than the rest

Personally a little table top compressor and gun would be even better. Won't be much more expensive and will save you loads of hassle. Load the paste open the valve and your away no holding nothing. Get a little roller track.
I know it's not what you asked but long term it would make life a lot easier and I'd say more consistent.

Can you recommend one or the sort of pressure I should be looking at?
Thanks

https://www.sgs-engineering.com/sc6h-6-litre-mini-compressor
I use the 24 litre version from SGS, with a 6kg Gun and it hardly kicks in so that one would be perfect with a smaller gun. I run at 4.5bar most of the time and set the speed on the gun. Can roll 5kg in 20 mins.
Can either have it slow, take it off the track and roll, or sausage it all out and roll afterwards of the mix holds moisture Well.

One thing to be aware of is where you are using a compressor as depending on type can be very noisy. things to consider are where you make your bait and the amount you are intending to make at any one time.
Depending on the stiffness of your mix and how much paste you make you may find a six litre compressor will be kicking in a lot, i would always go for a bigger compressor i use a 50 litre compressor which i plug in the garage and run an airline out

Absolutely, I used to use a 21l one with the 5mix gun and that used to kick in at least once during extruding a barrel full and yes, they make a right racket, a 6l compressor would be an absolute nightmare in my opinion

I've got the 24 litre and a 6kg gun and it kicks in maybe once in 3/4 full uses, I put in 5kg of paste a time.
It's about Getting the pressures right. Actually I made 30kg today and it kicked in once.
But to be honest it's for what a minute or two.
I agree a small compressor with 6kg gun now but for a small 1-2kg gun be absolutely fine.

Your using quite a big capacity gun and presumably its well sealed so after putting paste in and charging the gun the compressor does very little work, when you have run your paste out to open gun you have to release air?
A small gun will continually need reloading and charging making a compressor work more, i also find a bigger gun is easier to load without having air pockets. The mix itself and size of sausages can play a big part in this and will also determine how much the compressor will work, some mixes will happily fly through with less than 2 bar of pressure on the gun some need in excess of 4 bar to get them moving well.
I can remember years ago a mate was in his terrace house using a 6 litre compressor with a cox gun it was forever kicking in not only was it noisy in his house his neighbours also complained
On my 50 litre i just charge it once and turn it off it easily does 10k of paste and my mix is quite stiff
