Hi All,

So the misses has three nights in July in Saint-Hilaire-sur-Yerre (approx. 150km SW of Paris and relatively close to Le Mans, Tours, Orleans etc.) for a hen do. I have said I'll drive her down in the van and get a few nights fishing in. All sounds good in theory..

The hitch is that I am a relative novice when it comes to French fishing. I have bought a carte du peche before and just day fished small rivers by campsites. I am also happy using the free aires in villages to stay in.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the area that could recommend a few places to look into? I don't mind fishing a river or lake (although I don't have access to a boat), private or public. I notice that the river Loir (not Loire) is right on the doorstep.

If I could fish out of the van, that would be a bonus but not a necessity. My priorities are somewhere with no hassle (I can't be bothered with pushy/clique locals, sketchy night fishing as I'll be on my own etc..). I don't mind what size fish I'm aiming for, just a bend in the rod in some nice surroundings would be lovely.

Let me know if there is anything else that would help narrow it down. Any pointers would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your help!!.

There is always Bounty Lakes near Le Mans if you struggle to find anything.

Personally, I would be checking out the River Loir for a van friendly spot, I know such a spot

Message me if you wish.

Don't know bugger all about it just a quick google and this came up, looks like quite a few places/lakes along the LOIR in that area as well as you say the river itself.

Handy, thanks Kenny!

Am I right in saying there are some funny rules regarding night fishing and vans?

Etas de Janine isn't far from Le Mans, fished there years ago, cracking water. They're on FB, have a gander

Got a big trip coming up in the summer myself soon and was hoping to do a few stops in the van on some public venues - is there any ruling against fishing from a small camper van as opposed to putting a brolly up

You may get away with it or you may get done for wild camping, depends on the Garde.

I fished a stretch of the loir last year near Mareil sur loir just below Le Mans. No need for a boat. Supposedly some big carp in there aswell. Take a look on geo carp 👍
