Hi all I managed to pick up a mint set of Amorphous rods custom built by Trevs they are 2.75lb my question is did Daiwa only do 2.75 blanks that were the AKN blank ? Cheers all

Not sure but I DO know they made a lot of AKN 12h 2.75 rods as I have a pair of those myself in my collection of 5

AKN simply means amorphous Kevin nash so strictly speaking trevs are not akn's, some say they are a different blank but can't see it myself. Daiwa did 2.25tc and 13ft 3lb amorphous blanks as well, possibly others.

Trevs built on two Diawa amorphous blanks. The first was the AKN12H with the Kevlar wrap and slight green hue to the blank. That blank was dis-continued due to the carbon becoming unavailable.
Several years later, after Diawa launched the Infinity blank, they launched a second Amorphus blank. I guess late 90's. Trevs built on this also. It hasnt got the Kevlar wrap, and the blank lost its slight green hue and was more of a true grey.

all 5 of mine have that green hue to them I didnt know there were grey versions your not talking about the inferior IMO dictators are you ?

Trevs marked the later batch up as Amorphus (Just above the reel seat), and at the same price as the Infinities. The dictator was sold at a lower price point. They didn't sell and after the first batch sold, never re-stocked.

It was the amorphous braid that became unavailable although I suspect it was more a cost cutting as it had been used in other daiwa rods including boat, beachcasters, bass, fly, spinning and even float rods. Prior to the morphs daiwa had a similar range of rods with the braid called carbo whiskers and then whisker kevlars which I believe evolved into the amorphous whisker range.

I believe the green is in the varnish/finish, all the blanks are grey when taken back to bare carbon. I've bought and sold around 20 sets. One of the best rods ever made, they stopped making the blanks as they were too expensive to produce, then superseded by Infinty's as explained earlier.

I have a set of these in 12', they are in good nick but was going to have them rebuilt with full duplex and different guides.
Is that committing a cardinal sin? Should I just keep them original?

just make sure you dont let anyone sand them !!!!! and tip ring needs min 16mm IMO
