Just wondering what the best fabric or other type of material is to put down under gravel to stop weeds growing up. I need the water to drain away so I'm guessing plastic is no good. My mum had some real thin stuff that didn't do the job and I'm needing some heavy duty stuff, company names would be good so I can look them up.

this stuff seems good, I've had some down for a year with no weeds getting through, plenty getting round the edges tho. No gravel on it as yet either, was just chucked down to keep the weeds at bay until I have time to do something with it

Shame you live far away I have some heavy duty stuff hear I've been meaning to get shot of for a few years

Terram geotex.... can get small handipacks from Jewsons ( 11m x 4.5m) or if you got any mates in the building game there's usually a large roll on site

Terram the stuff you need, my mates a ground worker and reflagged my garden with a patio decking area....under the decking he put Terram and not a sight of a weed or anything and that was over 18 months ago..... I'd get the heavy duty stuff or the thickest you can afford, it's not very expensive ...but as mentioned if you know anyone who works on building sites they should be able to get you a piece for free..

As others have mentioned, terram is what you are looking for. It is specially designed to be spread on garden surfaces over which stones are added. The water will not block, and you do not have to worry that mold will form under it or that there will be traces of dirt. I turned to Landscaping Services for its installation in the gravel areas of the yard. Two years ago, I finished the renovation of the yard, and till now, I saw no weeds coming to the surface among the decorative stones.

Always good to remember that sometimes you will get weeds that just grow in between the gravel as once it gets some dirt in it seeds get dropped etc will just grow. Easily pulled out though 👍

Probably a bit late for the original poster but “ Mypex “ is often used in the horticultural industry as a weed suppressant.
It's a bit like vacuum cleaners called hoovers, there are now many copies of the black weaved material often still called mypex by those who use it. Genuine mypex always seemed to be a consistent quality but often a little more expensive.
