just looking at a couple of rods, but being out of it for so long and things moving ahead very fast, i need a little input.
fishing in heavy weed at times on a few lake and then from tip to 100-120 yards i have my rods i built 15+ years ago, 2 3/4, work fine and ill still have them but want a little more, thinking a 3lb 12ft will suit my needs, pockets are not deep so have to be a little careful. so! im down to two rods. both in my price range just dont want to be selling them within a month cus their broomsticks and popping hooks.

Try looking at a custom rod for that money (£320).
I've recently been looking at getting a new set of rods, I'm looking at the aviator's which are probably above the range you've put but not sure how much a 3 or 3.25 torrix might be. It's only when you start banging on the whistle and bell fixtures that the price rockets.
My Nick Buss 9x1 Parralell Butt rods cost less than my off the shelf Nash Pursuit Horizons (way back when).
Type in custom carp rods and have a play with some that have a priced build section. Mark Tunley and Eaton rod craft spring to mind off the top of my head

I can get both for £175 so a good saving to be had.
I did have Torrix's back when, nice rods, they where ok, bit heavy and stiff if im honest. i dont want to go custom again, i might as well make another set myself if thats the cast. but i dont want to be waiting the months for parts or the months for a set to be made, the weed is growing. lol

If it was my money i would be buying Century, Harrisons or top end free spirits (plus a bit £ for these) for that sort of cash

I thought you ment for each rod lol. I don't think I'll ever buy an off the peg rod again - personal preference - as I don't think that some are as good as their advertising would lead you to believe.
hopefully some of the lads on here can give you more info on the 2 youve selected

sorry, bit of a miss lead. i can buy the shimano and grey of £175 each

Why not second hand? There are tons of bargains to be had through Gumtree, Tackle-Trader, Facebook etc. For the most part rods are an honest purchase, a visual inspection and cast will reveal all..... not like buying a car.
I also feel that the standard of modern rods, even in the sub £100 market, is extremely good.

Think you made a good choice but either would have been fine.
My friend has aircurves and is very pleased with them and I have some of the older TX9's. Took me a while to get the feel of them and like you I thought they were heavy but checked them against one of my other rods and they were only slightly heavier even though they were a higher test curve.

I've had those rods for 3 years now and very happy with them. As close to an all round rod as I have found think Harrison Cerbera is as close and was my 2nd choice and I went with the Greys purely due to cost. Good to cast and a pleasure to play fish on and deals very well with large fish under the rod tip
